I think My old '94 carby had at some point before I owned it, spent some time in a swamp. It's mechanically sound but frame, motor and ancillaries all need a good tidy up so its time for a strip down, powdercoat the frame, refresh the motor and refurbish whatever else needs doing. I've got a few bits an pieces "in stock" so I'm thinking of rebuilding it as combination of different model years. I really like the white frame, I've got a single seat and some high rise pipes for the superlight look, I've got a set of half fairings, some late model full fairings with the extra vents and standard full fairings. At the moment I'm thinking white frame Mk1 yellow superlight with half fairings, old graphics and pale gold wheels. What's your favourite spec? What say you lot?
Personally I like the sound of what you are planning, I have various sets of fairings, half, vented and original l, which I will muck about with until I get the look I want depending on mood. Also have original seat and Ricambi full fairing with solo seat. My frame has been painted black, red panels and black wheels. I nearly went with white myself but it gets dirty and I hate cleaning! The only thing I would change in yours is the gold wheels. Go with white it'll look awesome with the frame and yellow panels. Thats just my thoughts.
I've already got a set of wheels done (See below), but yeah, you maybe right and I've got another pair waiting to be loved! The Mk1 Superlights had Mavics so maybe PC white spokes and polished rims as a nod to the SL?
John B, White frame, black wheels, carbon front mudguard, single seat, high level pipes, full or half fairing, oh and red (the fastest colour - no don't start that again). Hang on don't do that, I am doing that. The decision is yours. Cheers Gaz
My mate has a white frame and wheels 1992, it looks great. I would just do the whole wheel white if it was me.
In my experience the fuel tank is expensive to paint. Having said that, it is also common for them to rust through, which will then force the issue as this will require a full respray. Make sure you have budgeted for this as well as the fairing set. Your gold wheels look good - if you are going non standard - maybe try a deep metallic blue with them? If sticking with one of the four 'standard' [Red, Yellow, Black, Silver] schemes then black wheels are definitely the sensible option (they would match all but the black paint job and easy to keep clean), but the white does look amazing (and would match all but the silver); gold only matches red and yellow I think - then it was more bronze or silver. I would not copy the Marvic's personally, nor would I stump up the asking price for a set of originals. Need to have a mk1 superlight to go with!
Good point, I've got a spare tank which is in nicer nick than the one that's on there at the moment but I'm assuming that I'll need to get the whole thing re-sprayed, I got my other one done red last year (Red) and that was just under £500 including putting the decals under the clear coat and having painted number boards on seat unit and nose. I hadn't really thought of a non Ducati colour, hmmmm
