one track day in. and trying out for a ducati team !!,,,,tips please

  1. Blimey. How did I miss this last night? I've been following this thread with interest or even disbelief - but you couldn't make this up!

    First off, best wishes to you Terry. As others have said, bones heal faster than soft tissue provided there are no complications, so here's hoping for a quick recovery. I'm in Taunton so I'll gladly buy you a drink or ten from everyone here once you are out.

    Please forgive some of the comments from our fellow inmates here. The plot looked so unbelievable that it was either a a clear accident waiting to happen or a wind-up. 5 years riding? One track day? Race team try-out? 999s? Slicks? Gung-ho attitude. You said it yourself in your first post - "all the gear and no idea". I can understand why Arquebus couldn't believe it even after it had happened! I hope the two of you can put your handbags away now though. I agree with Glid that he should cut you some slack. You've clearly been an eejit but then haven't we all - it's just you've done it more dramatically than most others. I learnt a similar lesson to you myself - after over twenty years of riding and getting to be pretty fast on the road I got into racing. I had enough fear in me to do it on a low powered DD bike but even there the red-mist got the better of my talent and I ended up retiring after less than a season with injuries that still affect me. I hope you make a full, speedy recovery - good luck mate.

  3. So sorry to read this Terry, not what I was expecting really. I honestly thought you'd potter around and consider yourself a pro, at least you pushed yourself and in doing that, you've learned many things.

    Don't waste the lessons now, wait until you're back to 100% then try again (this time one step at a time). You've obviously got the balls, maybe just need to temper that with some experience and you could do well.

  4. I know what you mean I remember seeing mine lay on the floor when I was trying to get up :-(
    I wasn't sure I wanted to see Dizzy but I'm glad I did. I remember all the damage and the ex took pics but won't give them me.
    I was offered lots of help to get her back together again but I knew I wouldn't be confident in riding her again so I wrote her off.
    I said never ever again but it's in the blood and I'm going to ride again
    I'm even looking at doing a track day with Whit although I'm hoping Maria Costello is going to put together an all girly track day :)
     
  5. Get fixed up, buy a class B DD race bike and go racing :upyeah:

    Low power, strict rules, close racing and talent wins over power.

    It's really warming to read all your posts.
    With all this encouragement I already want to get back on my duc. But I fear some more growing up is required :-/ lol

  9. I keep hearing about these DD bikes. Maybe something to look in to? How big are they? As I'm taller than your average bear! Lol 6ft4
     
  10. Class B are 600s - SSs and Monsters - so quite ickle. If you fancy it I have a crashed one still in my shed which I'm hoping to fix-up over the winter - a bit of help in the garage wielding spanners would never be refused. Mind you, at 6'4" you could be at something of a weight disadvantage - not that it has stopped others!

    I think most people rode with me to save their licence :-D
    You could turn a 600 SS into a DD bike it's great fun a good paddock
    You just need to rein in the red mist
    Most of the guys on this thread are racers in some form and give good advice.

    I did 3 years and enjoyed it very much, Secret is to learn the tracks as corner speed is your friend and the best place to learn is gerrards at mallory. :upyeah:

    I forget the guys name who let me borrow it. But the motors had work done pulls like a train. Looks like a shed but passed people on the inside of the exit of a corner like no ones business!

    In the dry you would of lapped faster on the 900ss than your slick shod 999.

    Usable power.

    Like others on here who have raced in DD you will be amazed how many BIG bikes you can beat on corner speed.
     
  18. Yeah I can believe that. I used to have a Ktm super moto last year. The SS had a set of renthals on it. So stated riding like a super moto. And it responded well. Deffo a weapon in the corners. Tho I found when late braking the em front was hopping about. Think that was due to the wets? Also at high speed corners like the start finish strait at castle, it was over responsive. To be fair it was just like my Buell XB12r loved that bike. :)

  20. Gws TT. As a few others here, I watched but no comment, as I am a shite, slow rider, so my 2p would have been pointless.

    but, you tried, you crashed, you got bent n broken, but sounds like racing is in you, and you probably ought to pick yourself up, heal, and give it a go n a more controlled, lower power fashion.

    good luck with getting back to work ASAP.
