Newbie From France

  1. Hello All,
    My story:
I'm just getting back into sportsbike riding as I've been out of it for a while due to a hip replacement in Dec 2015. I had to sell my Panigale 1199S and Apilia RSV4R back in early 2015 as I couldn't get on them anymore. A sad day but I kept riding up until the op with some low seat height bikes - a Guzzi V7 and a Yamaha Bolt.
Anyway I'm happy to say that I'm getting back to my old self again and the Dukes are calling once again so I have joined your forum if you don't mind! Once hooked it never goes away, does it? My Ducati dealer in Montlucon, France has got my 2 bikes for sale and I have had some offers from him. He has a brand new 1199, an immaculate secondhand 2013 1199R with 3k on the clock and of course he has the current range too. So I'm currently in a very privileged dilemma and looking to getting back on track, so to speak!
    I'll keep you posted.
    Maz

  2. Hey Maz

Welcome - nice to have a privileged dilemma such as yours!

  3. Don't forget that the second hand one will be a restricted 106 bhp version, while the new one will be full power as the rules have just changed.

  4. Thanks..
Good point. I had forgotten about that. My 1199S had a usb switch to change it between 106 and 195. Maybe the French "R" has the same feature. But you are right, even if it has then it would probably not be legal to set it to full power.

  5. The 106 hp restriction law has now changed as of last week.
Provided the bike you are trying to immatriculate (register in the UK ) has a European coc and ABS then there is no power restriction any longer.
I'm off to the tresorie to get a quittus fiscale later in the week then I'll be registering my UK registered bike onto French plates at full power.

  6. Welcome Maz :upyeah:

  7. Maz, if your local dealer is Montlucon, you're not far from me, they're my closest one too!

  8. Thanks Exige!

  9. Small world. I live near Chateauroux but Daniel is a very friendly chap so I have dealt with him since 2009. Thanks for the info on the deregulation. I knew they were umming and ahhing about the Euro 3. That's good news though - for those that have ABS, that is. That probably means a 2013 1199R is allowed to be full power.

  10. When you read the bulletin published, they haven't mentioned Euro 3 or 4 so theoretically Euro 1 bikes onwards can be de restricted/registered full power on import as long as they have ABS.
I'm in Sainte-Christine in 63, only been here since August last year.
Luckily my insurance agent is Ducati mad so he pointed me in the right direction for info

  11. Welcome Dave :)

  12. I mentioned Euro 3 as I had heard that from both the Montlucon dealer and a dealer in Chateauroux and both were waiting on news of this several weeks ago. I'm off to Montlucon at the end of the week so I think I'll find them happy as they can now sell some stock which they were not sure of elling before.
    Thanks Gun!

  13. Fools & Horses...somebody actually thought my name was Robin the other day!

  14. That's a crazy thing to do, Dave :)

  15. It probably is allowed to be full power but get the dealer to change it as the Carte Gris has to be changed to show a full power bike and that will cost.

  16. Heh heh. Thanks for the kickstart for the day, Elton.

  17. As soon as you enter the prefecture you are already a couple of hundred euros down :-(

  18. Would you prefer to pay road tax every year and then have to have an MOT on your bike too? That is the system in the UK and I find life easier owning 5 bikes with no MOT and no road tax to pay.
