1198 Wheels Or Suspension

  1. Hi chaps I'm looking at using my 1198 on track more though still on the road occasionally. I've been trawling the interweb to see what would be the best upgrade for about 2k 2.5k some people say keep stock suspension and go the bst\mag wheel route? Others insist on updating the suspension on stock wheels?? What best value for toot?? I'm all ready running a ttx shock and standard showa forks and standard enki rims. I must eat humble pie here as I said in the past bst wheels weren't worth the money but I do love the look of the Matt 7spoke bst wheels and friends that have them on there bikes say they make a hell of a difference, even more so on track. So I'm now very tempted but is it wiser to spend on suspension rather than wheels?? Cheers guys.

  2. Suspension first without doubt and should there be funds left, a decent set of OZ or Marchesini forged aluminium wheels. Andy

  3. Wheels, I upgraded by 1098 to Ohlins and noticed a bit of a difference then put BST carbons on it and fuck me its a completely different bike, best money you will spend full stop.

  4. Guys pro twins have got a set of magnesium marchesini wheels on eBay for £1500 are these worth a look?? Any good for road use? Cheers.

  5. Marchasini mag alloys are most defintely not a standard fit to the 1098s as stated and several pictures show that corrosion (worm tracks) has already set in which means the wheels have been re painted. I would avoid these like the plague at that price point. Andy

  6. Personally I want those properly checked/re-furbed prior to use. I'd be looking at forged wheels.

  11. Yeah black is nice I just think the gold go with the white really well. But those forged black marchesinis are a good price!! Mmmmmmmmmm oz piegas or marchesinis??

  12. As I understand it, mag and salt dont mix so providing they are kept clean and used in warmer times, and garage isnt damp, should be ok, except super light race ones that that are not recommended for the road.

Personally, I'd do suspension first. Then carbon wheels.

  13. I really do like the matte carbon bsts but bit out of my price range if I'm going to sort the forks as well.

  14. Depends, as HPS often do 0% deals and you could just replace the valves and get resprung the std kit, maybe £5-600 for front and back

  15. Got ttx on the rear mate, not sure if I put the lighter wheels on it maybe save me doing the forks.?

  16. I had the goldy looking bendy spoke ones on my last trackbike.
I'd be looking for some of these but in black if I was in the market.
