That is entirely possible. I suspect that Yamaha don't have lots of spare change after paying Mr Rossi. They almost certainly couldn't match what Ducati will be paying Lorenzo. Whoever they get on the other factory Yamaha next year either has lots of personal sponsorship or commands a low salary. I suspect that Pedrosa may fall into the first of those categories. Vinales probably didn't hence he needed Yamaha to meet his salary demands.

It's gonna be interesting. Remember the hissy fit Jorge threw when the Yamaha wasn't perfect? He has godlike talent but I don't think he's good at riding around weaknesses in the bike. If the Ducati's not set up JUST the way he likes, he may not do so great on it. We shall see.
I agree with the Autosport article as regards his chances. He should be on the best bike with a young team mate, so........ In my opinion, whether he wins the title next year will come down to 3 things......... We eventually find out how good the Desmosedici really is with a top class rider on it. Will Vinales be happy to be No.2 to Rossi (I doubt it very much). Why the BT Sport commentators think he'll happily be subservient to Rossi for 2 years, I have no idea. :Meh: But crucially for me, how good / bad will the Honda be? If it's a good bike, Marquez will be very, very, very hard to beat. Rossi nearly won it last year as he finished every race while others had DNF's. This year he's had 2 DNF's already and I very much doubt he can pull this back as he's not the fastest rider out there anymore. That being said, he's impressed me more this year than he did last year. His performance in Jerez was sublime when others struggled and I think he had the pace to win in Mugello until his engine failure, he was certainly all over Lorenzo.
Rossi was actually managing to keep up with lorenzo for a few laps but I doubt he could have kept it up. Had his engine not blown he may have managed a 3rd position or possibly fourth (his usual). Folk keep piping on about Rossi, Yes he was the best, now he ain't. The hate for Lorenzo and Marquez is utterly shameful. Come next year when the ducati of Lorenzo beats rossi, well be ready for the big retirement (that should stir things up!)

I have to agree with you. Lorenzo is the faster rider, but looked to be struggling a little on Sunday. I think Rossi would have had him on this occasion without the engine issue.
I acknowledge the disagreements. Biggest shame is we will never know. I admit Rossi was looking threatening but he was on his limit in my opinion. I love a close fought race and yes, I am a lorenzo tranny fan but I don't dislike any of the riders.
