Adjusting Gear Selection

  1. Has anyone got any pointers on how to set this as its not selecting every gear, its going into neutral a lot. Ive been adjusting the two screws and the locknut on the selector arm but cant get it right.

  2. Without wishing to teach grandma to suck eggs, chain tension affects gear selection - have you checked that?

Also, have you got the lever low enough at your toe? If you're not lifting the lever quite enough as you change up, that will affect things too.

  3. Sorry, should have been more specific, engines out and casings off, its the selector arm I am trying to adjust the pedals etc are unconnected. Just rebuilt engine

  4. I assume you have looked at the Section 'Engine Overhaul' in the workshop manual?

Specifically 'Fork Control Drum' and 'Gear Selection Forks'.

  5. I have consulted the Haynes, but its not working out for me. Misplaced workshop manual I will download a copy and consult

  6. Workshop manual is the same as Haynes

  7. I'm sorry to suggest that should tell you there is something basically wrong, then.....

....are you missing something (apart from a few gears, that is?)

  8. Its been sorted, its been explained to me by the tech guru on ducatiupnorth and I was adjusting it a little incorrect.

  9. Derek??

  11. When I first got my 999, the front brake light switch didn't work.
I put up a post asking for ideas.
@Derek replied suggesting I wiggle the connector strapped to the top rail just in front of the tank.
He was spot on and Derek has never even had a 999!
    Amazing...
