i have to say that the last few seasons of motogp have been utter crap/ wheres the close racing, the personality??? its almost as boring as watching F1 (which i put marginally above golf and cricket in the spectator tedium stakes).. Every race i watch i think, 'this time it will be different'..but no... I'd say, maybe even the last 4 years, or possibly longer, have got duller and more boring. All of my biker mates have lost interest completely and dont watch it at all. I must admit, i dont really care who wins anymore, and am not particularly interested in whose riding what next year...'cept maybe for Vale...but it was dull even before he went to Ducati. I remember thinking at the time that the move might finally make the series more interesting..No. The lower classes are more fun, but im losing interest. Fast.
Totally agree with you Funky, ever Rossi said it had become boring in an interview with the BBC this weekend. Something needs to be done, just look at the support classes, Moto2 and 3. Really exciting racing with full grids. If only Honda, Yamaha and Ducati are in GP, what's the point?
Agree with all the above. And yes, Rossi did say it was tedious, and thus the powers that be must be in no two minds how dull it is. They need to entice the other manufacturers back. I think the CRT thing is a total red herring. I have no interest in it. Who cares? Also-ran riders running also-ran machinery - it's just grid filling so that spectators (not TV watchers) can see something once the first 10 bikes have gone past. Superbike is more entertaining as its closer and anyone could win. Interestingly, when you think of it, you'd imagine a wet race like Sepang to be a greater leveller than it was. Pedders still cleared off, and although Stoner would have passed Lorenzo, it's still the same 3. Surely Vale, a top wet weather rider, should have been more in the mix? The Ducati can't be pushing its front in the rain and it's as fast if not faster than the other bikes in a straight line, so I can't really see what the handicap is on a soaking track. What say you?
Rossi had visor issues which dropped him back down the field so that explains the reason of his 5th place unfortunately. Boring to a degree yes, Moto2 and 3 certainly steal the show but not only hearing a GP bike at full chat let alone the speed is something to behold. The formula needs to change and it is, CRT as the example BUT it's going to take a few years to figure out plus the manufacturers needs to agree, look at Honda this year... kicked up a fuss over the new Bridgestones and have threatened to leave if they cannot run their ECU. Suzuki are back in 2014, I get the feeling Spies will be on that bike already (watch this space) so manufacturers are coming back, BMW have been sniffing around plus Aprilia (CRT for example) so although we have a lull at the moment things will improve.
You have two manufacturers building full works machinery, then wonder why the same two teams keep winning everything. Quite simply there is no competition. So you can either encourage more factories to join in, which they can't afford, or change the rules. But if you change the rules everyone starts crying. No win situation. CRT, whether you like it or not, is the answer, and control ECUs will be deployed soon. They have to be. The current situation - with works machinery on the same track as CRT bikes - is not doing the sport any favours at all, so something needs to be done quickly, and the only thing that can be done quickly is control ECUs. Listen, I was the first one to gripe when they announced the regs for moto2 - it's so unfair, this should be a prototype series - but I stopped griping the moment they entered the first corner of the first race. And stopped worrying about prototypes the same instant. Dorna need to make some tough decisions, and stop worrying about what Honda want. Oh, and ditch the control tyre rule, cos that ain't worked at all.
The tragic loss of Marco has robbed the sport - it was already going down hill but he really made it worth watching. I really hope that it soon gets back to being the stunning spectacle it was a few years ago. I think Rossi still has the potential to bring something special & I keep watching it with a hopeful view!
Topless grid girls Riders must do a few Jagerbombs Spikes on the front and rear of the bikes Armco's wired up the to mains That should do it
How abour getting rid of qualifying and the riders line up in reverse order from the previous race so the winner starts at the back. THis would be particularly good in F1 where overtaking is harder but should still help a bit in moto gp. Still let the riders and drivers practise and decide what tyres are best etc but that should have nothing to do with position.
What's that (indoor velodrome) cycling event called where a bunch of riders set off and the last one to cross the line each lap is eliminated? That would work well in motoGP!
Yeah Moto GP is boring but Moto 2/3 makes up for it - it's unmissable. Great ride by Gino - another half a lap and he would have had a win. Give him Marquez's bike for next year! In fact all the front four were in a different league on Sunday. Oh and what about the crowd eh? I don't think I've ever heard such a noisy / enthusiastic lot cheering for the home riders. Also, the presenter doing the grid walk needs to spend an extra few minutes talking to the brolly-dollies with the camera man right up close and personal. - IMHO.
Whilst I agree MotoGP is getting boring, always watch it as to me its the premier class (or was). Despite some excellent racing in the smaller classes I just cant get into Moto2 or Moto3 like I used to with 250 and 125. My Mrs summed it up nicely the other day whilst watching Moto2, "whats the point, everyone is on the same bike!" (engine...) I follow manufacturer rather than rider, and loved the early 990 era when manufacturers were all trying different solutions to the same problems.WSB and especially BSB have been going from strength to strength imho.
I'm the opposite, Hammer. I couldn't get into 125s or 250s, but moto2 and moto3 are essential viewing for me now, more so than motogp unfortunately.
