Evening Does anyone happen to know the size of the bolts that secure the clutch slave cylinder to the engine on an 1198S? Also, what's the best way to remove one that's rounded off??? (Yes, I'll replace them with something harder than Parmesan...). TIA Andrew
If it's an allen bolt, the easiest, simplest way is to knock a suitably sized torx bit into the rounded off socket, this should grip beautifully and allow you to wind the bolt out easily. Replace with stainless
Thanks for that, I'll give it a try. Stainless replacements was what I had in mind. I'm still a bit uncertain about the bolt size though. I watched a few videos on YouTube last night and they talk about M5 bolts. However, I just measured one that I could remove from the bike and I think it's M6 (thread diameter ~6mm, takes a 5mm Allen key)? Thanks again Andrew
Not the ideal place to buy but you could just take one to Halfrauds and match it up - they do a range of stainless these days
OK, all sorted now. Paid a visit to the local tool store (wonderful old-fashioned place, everything available as single items not as full sets only etc) and got three stainless M6 x 16 bolts and a decent Allen wrench (one with a proper handle, not the little L-shaped thing that comes in the tool kit). With a bit of effort all of the original bolts came out so just need to clean up the actuating rod etc, put it all back together, then bleed the system and I'm done. I hope. Thanks for your replies. Andrew PS - I think Halfrauds are much better than they used to be; their "Professional" range of tools are actually quite good IMO.
Yes I have Yes, I have one of their professional socket sets and it's excellent. I just meant not ideal for stainless fasteners. Glad it's sorted
