Evening all, I've joined the forum to gain some info (from all of you) on a planned purchase. I currently run a CBR1000RR 2014 with a few mods but this is a bike which is used for commuting, track days and the odd trip to Spain. I have been riding for over 32 years so have plenty of experience riding most types of bikes. I owned (briefly) a 996 a few years ago but that is the only Ducati i've ever owned. I am now looking to buy either a decent low milage 1199s OR a 1299. To be honest I think the 1299s is a little bit too expensive for me so my dilemma is this.... Do i aim for the 1199s with all the ohlins suspension gizmo's or is the stock std 1299 the better option/bike? The bike will be used as mentioned above and i'm hoping to test ride both. Just wanted to hear other riders opinions. Tip Harrison
Or you could try a 899, which would be perfect for what you're wanting to do. But welcome anyway Dave
The 1299 is probably better for road use than the 1199s tbh, although both will be good. The 899 is awesome on the road, I really like it. So definitely don't discount it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
hiya dave got a 1299 at the mo but had the 899 last year. the 1299 does take a while to get used to and the first 600 miles is a pain in the arse I have found until it gets adjusted in the first service.the power is awesome but sounds to me you don't want to go 180mph everyday haha. to be honest the 899 has it all.power upto 150mph nearly as quick as all the bigger boys, handing is sublime, comfort is great ( 1299 is good aswell),low speed riding is very good v twin is smooth and not lumpy so is easy on your hands. rode it in race mode and the power and toque is great and above all you can trust it with your life not to spit you off on the days you want to have a blast. 1299 is great aswell and is a work of art but money being money the 899 is a lot cheaper and in normal riders hands just as good.
Personally (and this is my 12 year old inner child speaking here) Get the fucking fastest one that makes the most noise.
