  6. You know this is a Ducati forum right? It's not that big a secret here. Just the rest of the motorcycling world didn't click as MCN slatted it.

  9. all the journalists go misty eyed and say what a cracker it is...they all slated it back in the day. Rarity counts for something too.......

  10. Mine cost me £5k..........there's a lower spec' one in Lincoln Italia Moto at £7995.

I'm amassing a little treasure trove of bits - every time one is broken on eBay my heart breaks a little and then i realise mine is just that bit rarer

  11. I think the used bits are high in price, compared to 748/9*6/8, i'm putting it down to rarity as not many sold.

  12. It would be nice to know how many were sold .
Also as there were 20% fewer individual components (or similar ) from an engineering and assembly point of view they could have been more profitable (apart from volume sales )
There were a few firsts I believe - first machined out top yoke on a production m/c.

  13. If you can buy the R either 749/999 apart from being a sound investment an outstanding bike .

  17. The clutch can be made to work superbly.
Mine is now one finger light, lovely and smooth, no drag and no slip :)

  18. It seems to be a common problem ,i kept losing one until i put a little clear silicon sealant on the bayonet fitting, strong enough to hold it in place but easy enough to remove if you need to change the bulb.
As for the clutch try fitting an oberon clutch slave, one of the best mods i've done.

And like the rest of the posts on here ,dont shout its praises too loudly or everyone will want one...seriously tho, cracking bike i love mine

  19. Always fancied a 999... Saving up for the S version and it seems the "S" models are now fetching similar prices as 1098"S" are fetching.
After riding a 998 for the past few years I'm expecting the 999 to be feel like an armchair in comparison. Less extreme seat height and Clipon position and I hear lots of adjustment available.
You reckon they still coming down in price or bottomed out now?

  20. in oct 2013 I bought my 749s for 3k 2003 model & 12k mileage full history, original sale invoice as well, in the winter they dropped slightly but I knew my mint 749s was only to be uncovered as the owner hadn't polished it for over a year and paint was nearly pink, latest offer last summer £4250.bear in mind its the silver framed not the preferred red & black,
999's already going up cause that's what I'm looking for now and the gap now will always be the same
