899 Exhaust Leak

  1. My exhaust is leaking slightly at the join which is visible under the seat with the spring. It's making a rather annoying ticking sound!

I'm not the most patient or mechanically minded person so just wondered how big of a job it is getting the thing apart so I can get some sealant in there?

  2. It's quite a pain I think, need to lift the rear subframe up to allow access to the heat shield cover. I don't think u can do it another way.

  3. So yes, as Phill has said, you need to lift the subframe to get to the exhaust properly. You really shouldn't need to put any sealant in there though, it's not like it is leaking from a gasket. You probably just need to seat it all back together properly.

  4. Tbf mine spits a bit if I've washed the bike, I've never really thought too much about it. I don't think it's the finest seal in the world at the best of times

  5. Thanks guys. What a pain!

Phill, it's nothing too major. It does seem to be worse when it's started from cold. I don't get much water leaking from it, it's more the annoying tick it makes. Kinda detracts from the unbaffled termi's :)
