  5. Never manage to check all of them? Nearly lost a rear light lens screw the other month... tightening bolts isnt as much fun as cleaning :)

  6. Whenever they've vibrated out and I'm replacing them

  7. +1

  8. After I've removed them and i'm refitting them.

Once again loctite is your friend.

Do it right, do it once! ;-)

  9. I'm on my sixth Italian bike, and between them they've not lost as many bolts as my SV1000 did. That thing got lighter after every ride:mad:

  12. I'm told Harley-Davidson practice is basically to Loctite every nut and bolt, which is what stops them falling to pieces.

  13.

If it didnt rain as much it would get so much fettling anyways?? :upyeah:

I find the extremes to be the peculiar part of Ducati ownership??

Stuff that really should be loctited at the factory, but isnt (crank plugs are the obvious one...)

Stuff that is over-locked and will only come out with Big Heat/Big Loud Short Words/Divine Intervention (barrel studs)

Random stuff that viiiIiIiIiiiiiIibes on out anyways? (Exhaust end cap & fusebox lid lost forever, numerous bolts caught just in time?)

I will always say the only way to have a reliable solid Ducati is to strip it completely -

    And rebuild it PROPERLY.

  14. funny old world, the motor industry was hot on loctite about a decade ago, now the common thinking is that it shouldn't be used as you can't guarantee torque stability.. as edwina curry said, eggs are bad... mmm okay.

  15. I torque and tension bolts for a living.....for some applications Loctite is required and I've never heard of any issues with it, as long as it was tightened correctly in the first place.

  16. true, and I'll stand by you on that. they even started to look at coatings through suspicious eyes once as well. Oh well nowt as queer as folk.

  17. Yup...PTFE coated bolts were the best thing since sliced bread a few years ago....now spun galv is more commonly regarded as better....

    It goes on forever...

  18. not really had anything work loose.....

  19. You do have a Ducati do you? Do you ride it?

  20. Is this based on your personal experience?

I have a 52 harley and I don't use loctite and don't need to, good quality fasteners, lock washers and assemble it properly in the first instance and things don't come undone.

Used to use loctite 25 years ago when I had a Triumph (sad mistake) until I was given the advice to replace every single dodgey thread with a new one and put things together properly with fasteners capable of doing the job properly.

Talking about fasteners, Ducati supply pretty crap fasteners with their bikes, have slowly been going over my bike replacing everything with stainless, why can't they do the job propely in the first instance

And it gets worse also have an Alfa and are starting to replace all its corroded fasteners with stainless on that as well
