Went upto the north west 200 for practice today and had to ride like a vicar because the police were everywhere with speed trap vans etc. 120 mile round trip and didn't go above 85mph. Did race her up through gears and enjoy a few roundabouts (where I could.) checked onboard computer on return home and discovered 45mpg without even trying! I'll probably never see that again! But curious anybody managed higher?
Not a chance but I have been similarly surprised at how economical the 1199 can be. It's just wrong to have to ride it like that
Tbh the 899 is pretty good even when you are on it, generally I would say mine is in the low 40's mpg. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I get an average of between 43 and 48 on my 899 on the road and I don't hang about. I've seen over 50 on the motorway runs frequently. Fuel light comes on very early imo
Yeah, agreed, my fuel light is a total Dick! No other word for it... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Over 120 miles of fairly fast road riding on Monday I still got 50mpg! That's from actually recording the mileage and fuel volume as well rather than the trip computer. I was certainly amazed because we weren't hanging about... And over that 120 miles the bike only actually used 10L, I find it tends to leave me with 5-7L in the tank when the light comes on.
Yea the fuel light is a pain in the arse, it tends to come on really early, then on occasions disappear for a few mile! On most occasions it comes on I've only used about 10-11 litres, guess the fuel light means you are good for another 30-40 mile?
Yeah I think that personally I'm probably good for another 40-60 miles if I was to run it dry basically, that's like 180 miles from a tank. I really don't think that's bad for a big twin to be honest, I was always surprised at people saying the fuel economy isn't great on these.
Fuel economy seems very reasonable. One can only assume those that who think it's crap either ride it everywhere like Iannone or they are working on the assumption that when the fuel light comes on it means a tank of fuel only lasts 100 miles.
I think the consumption is fine, I've only ever got 13 litres in even when I've done 125 miles on a tank, my issue is the fuel light which the other day came on at 95 miles, stayed on for 11 miles and then went out!!! I know many have reported fairly random behaviour so I just reset the trip ever time now and fill up at 130 miles! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The trip computer in my car says I'm getting 44.1 mpg. Actually calculating what I've used (full to empty) I've been getting 58mpg. And I've done it twice now to double check
Really? I didn't think it was that bad! Obviously not why I bought the bike but at the same time it's nice to be able to pay less for petrol thank you thought you would! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My 1199 is like a junkie looking for its next fix... Just wants feeding all the time.. But boy does she GO!!
I know that vehicle tax for cars is changing in a big way next year, with some sort of initial CO2-based lump-sum tax. I hope that the CO2 based taxation doesn't make it across to bikes, because they are pretty shameful in this respect - compared to cars which have gained significant improvements in economy and performance over the past 30 years or so, bikes seem only to have gained performance (a lot of that though!).
