Never done a track day before. Just never went for it but really looking forward to it.
    Hired a 959, thanks to Royal's advice.

Knee sliders, I haven't got any. Anyone know if I can get some on my existing leathers somehow?
Never thought I'd need them but I'm certainly going to give it a try.

  4. Really?? Methinks he may be taking the piss :D

  5. Something like this, maybe ?

  6. Use gaffer tape to hold them on....Proper gnarly!

  7. Seemed quite pricey to me too, but then I did only do a 2 min google search and there's probably cheaper options available
The alternative would be to give CSS a call, who run the track days, and rent some leathers for the day. From memory, they're about £30 for the day and I'm certain they'll be renting ones with sliders

  8. Seriously -buy a cheap set and wrap them on with gaffer tape.
You've clearly never seen never seen Bradders at a TD! :tearsofjoy:

  9. Taping them on is fine by me but doesn't it ruin the surface of the leathers when you peel gaffer tape off?

Found an alternative near me. New set of jeans with sliders for £84...which could be OK if it zips together with my jacket.

Or tape or hire as you say. Thanks for suggestions guys.

  10. Gaffer is the way forward :) Seriously though, It's fairly unlikely a new set of trousers will zip onto your existing jacket.
I've just bought some of those wiz sliders for the elbows and they look like decent bits of kit, they're with the leather man being stitched on this week. I've heard the glue is pretty solid but you could do some expert DIY stitching yourself to make sure you dont lose them I reckon? Definately worth the effort as having your knees to stabilise in the corners is very useful. If you tuck them in because you dont want to wreck your leather (or knee!) then it's more difficult to gauge your lean angle. With decent tyres its unlikely you'd ever have a slide if you check you lean angle with your knee.

  11. If I ever get to the point where my Elbow's on the floor, it'll be closely followed by the rest of me as I'll be on my way down
Like you say with knee sliders, using your knee is an excellent gauge of angle, so well worth investing in if you're planning on pushing on a bit

  12. I often stick my foot down before my knee on the right side. Really pisses my off!

  13. I'm going to be hooning around at Donny on the 31st. I've decided that track day insurance is the way forward if I want to get maximum enjoyment out of the day and to reduce the number of tears falling if my red beauty goes for a slide.
I've had a quote from Bemoto for £267 (£1000 xs) which covers all the structural parts and the pretty bits which I think is reasonable for a £13-14K bike.
Ive done a few track days and I've been riding for 14 years on the road and kept the rubber side down throughout so hopefully there should be no dramas but I still think having that safety net will help me enjoy my day more.
What's your thoughts on TD insurance?

  14. I bought a lovely new set of Alpinestar Supertech Rs a year or so back and went out to Jerez. First session I went right through the toe slider and the damn boot, no idea why I did it as it's not normally a problem! I've been wearing them for the last 12mths like that with a slider taped over the top of the toe!
