848 848 Evo Corse Se Won't Start - Batt 5.2 Error

  1. Hi all,

Had my 2013 848 evo corse se stored over winter with the battery removed and charged it every month, so at the weekend installed the battery and got a batt 5.2 error. So I disconnected it and charged it and checked with a multi meter and it showed 12.53, didn't get a chance to install it till the next day. Tested with multimeter before connecting it up and it gave a reading of 12.37. Once connected and ignition switched on it gave a reading of 10.13 on the multimeter, with ignition off it read 11.53.
I only got the bike last year with 0 miles on it and it ran with no issues. I'm thinking the battery is toast but why would it die after 1 year? If it is the battery I was thinking of getting either the Shido LT12B-BS or the Antigravity Battery YT12BS-12 as they are the same size as the current battery anybody got either of these in their bikes?

  2. Yuasa battery for me, if your original one not been used for a year it's guna be toast, dries out then won't take a charge or very little, I tend to put a new one in every other year now as matter of corse just so I'm not worried about it failing at any point.

  3. Mine died in year 1. Replaced under warranty. I'd say it's was toast.

  4. I'm on my third battery on mine. Bash in a new one and enjoy :tonguewink:

  5. Battery is definitely knackered, my battery has been on for five trouble free years and still fires up first touch of the button every time.

  6. Testing the battery the way you did will only give voltage which only tells you half the story.

You'd need to test the ampage output.

Sounds like the battery's on its way out mind you.

  7. Cheers guys, I thought it probably would be the battery but not 100% sure. I'll look into one of the lithium ones for better cca.

  8. Don't forget if you go lithium your need a lithium charger.

  9. Are you sure ?

  10. Yes, check the c-tek company

  11. I am a little curious as regards to the charger required for the Lithium battery, I do use lithium batteries with a dedicated charger for my remote control helicopters but if you use one on a motorbike the charging system isn't changed on the bike so why a different charger?

  12. That might be c-tek but not all

  13. Yeah going to get an optimate lithium, as I understand it you can use a standard charger as long as it hasn't got a desulphate mode
