848 848 Lowering

  1. I have looked and read a fair bit on the above,but has anyone got anyone got any help or advice other than grow a bit:)

    I see there is some adjustable top yokes that might make it easier on reach, and as advised on here by Andy? I rang kais and reactive for lowering prices, must admit it's still a bit dear as I need a softer spring also, talking near on£600 to lower bike and change rear spring I'm not knocking I'm just trying to do it cheaper pretty normal I think, gonna need belts before I ride too so yes just any help advice be welcome cheers
     
  2. You can get a ride height adjuster for the rear and drop the forks through a bit. But IMHO you can ride the 848 with little legs....I've got a 30" inside leg and can get both feet down (not flat admittedly) and shifting to one side makes it very comfortable. How much have you ridden the bike as dropping the ride height would be a big compromise for such a fine handling bike

  3. as long as you can get 1 toe to the ground riding any bike is possible..perhaps not practical or comfortable when mounting/dismounting or maneuvering to park /leaving a parking space but thinking ahead is part of riding and a necessity when vertically challenged. im 6'5 or is that 5'6? i confuse easy! used to ride and race mx bikes that i couldnt kick stat if i dropped unless i was on the right slope and have to get on n off most rd bikes with the side stand down... the plus side is lil folks are faster!!!!

Cheers for that, I am used to pivoting on a bike had sp1 sp2 and another 848,had this one nearly 3 years and a heap of other bikes..I have however never had a stroke and having now had one I just feel flipping vulnerable so I'm thinking at least get more of my feet on the ground and less of a bar reach.

    I was thinking of getting another rvf 400 I have had 5 and do like them and it is a perfect fit,but I love my 848 and will give it every chance ...rvfs have gone stupid dear too.

    I'm hoping to get the 848 to suit me without compromising the handling the 1098 and 1198 are both lower and still handle so I'm hoping it can be done but £600 is a lot of dollar at mo and it's mostly labour charges, think they strip everything and shorten springs etc I'm not knocking anyone just trying to help myself a bit.

  5. sorry mate! did read your other post about the stroke but didnt even register it was you writing this one or that there may be issues other than just ya height! just drunkenly spouting without thinking too much as per!!!
    i really do hope your recovery is going and goes well and ya soon riding again dude. sorry i cant help with lowering info
     
  6. The stroke means you are bound to feel vulnerable in many, many ways but you will learn to cope. You will adjust, you just need to persevere. I lowered an MV Turismo Veloce to go to Europe. Thought it would boost my confidence parking etc. It made no difference in that regard but it did alter the bike's feeling and function, ruined it for me. Lowering you 848 will change it and you have enough change going on at the moment. Only time and familiarity will make you feel less vulnerable. I have seen much smaller people than myself do amazing things on tall bikes and I'm guessing pre stroke you were the same. Don't panic, what's the worst that can happen? You could drop it at low speed. You might break a lever, scratch a fairing. Repairing them won't cost the money you are talking about. Fit some crash bungs and relax a little. It will come.   9. If you want a lower bike get a gixer the 848 is a pig a low speed

  10. And what was it like @El Toro? Did you notice a difference in handling and how much was it? What did they do to lower it?

No worries I never took it any way but light hearted, you wrote what I'd have wrote,only about an inch lower on the 848 I don't think I'll ever notice the handling been affected I'm steady on the road but that standard spring still has me in the air...I only weigh 11stone and I'm 5'2 5"3 ish ...I like those top yokes that are adjustable too look the nuts but need to know if they reduce reach ...so it's not big movement im after just enough to make life a tad easier...I might manage without but rather not struggle ..I always have managed ha

  13. The first thing that I did when I bought mine was to lower it. Cost me less than £30 and has made no difference to handling at all. I lowered the back end only, the front would be very easy too. Some will tell you that the half a degree change in the rake angel of the forks will make the handling different, but in my opinion that is rubbish as 99% of riders would not notice it.

  14. Like Ali & Bob said it's a doddle with the shorter link rod and raising the forks a gnats won't hurt, I see your local to me so if you need a hand just give us a shout :upyeah:

It's cool I'm experienced on bikes and I'm easy going I like to take the mick out of people and expect the same back :) I'm just a bit lost on which way to go with lowering I think to myself pay out a heap and get done right but reality is pay a bit and get help and pay for help job done, it's only an inch or so (she said) I can't see it been a big deal on my bike I don't push much really. Was big of you to apologise but absolutely not necessary that goes to everyone I'm easy going ..I'm a biker we are easy going :)

  20. It was good. Handling was very sharp indeed. I can't remember what they did to the suspension now but they did have to shorten the side stand too. And it cost £400.
