Just to add I think the main reason is the siemens ones have to be dumped, fueling changes made and then re-written and then run, so, he could be rewriting the ecu loads of times during the day...the MM ones can be changed on the fly...just going from memory as we had this conversation about 2 years ago...
Hi Guys, Just an update, I'm booked in to HM Racing for the 6th June! I'm primarily there for a suspension setup, they're also going to put my bike on the dyno, just for a simple power run etc (I'll video it I think!) just to see what it has etc I initially wanted a full tune and custom map done, unfortunately though Dynojet does not yet produce a Power Commander for the 939 ....so I thought, as an alternative to a Power Commander i'd go with a RAPID BIKE unit (Rapidbike Evo | DIMSPORT - ENGINE CALIBRATION SPECIALISTS but they also don't yet produce a unit for the 939 engine BUT they are currently working on developing one for it in the next few weeks! A bit of a shame because I'd like to get a new air filter for the bike as well and get it all properly sorted out. Oh well, it'll be interesting to see what power the bike has anyway. I'll post a video up of the dyno run as soon as I can!! Cheers, Paul
Ooooh - id say contact Chris at CJS - I think he can reflash a 939's ecu....if he can youll get far more out of it....
A flash just changes the map on the ECU... Basically CJS may be able to edit the map on your ECU (like a power commander map can be edited) instead of fitting a Power commander etc.

Yeah - but...and its a biggie (IMO) is you get more control over an ecu flash than adding a power commander or whatever addon box....ie - mine now has a custom map, and additionally.... 1. o2 sensors removed. Less wiring. 2. Flapper valve deleted. Less weight, more wiring removed, less to go wrong. 3. Redline increased by 500 rpm Chris did even more on my zed. In addition to the mapping... 1. Again o2 sensors removed. 2. Redline increased. 3. Flapper valve removed 4. Fuel cut off sorted (reduced engine braking) 5. Secondary injector cut in time changed from 7k in 1st 2nd and 3rd to 3k which is the mapping for 4th 5th and 6th. Reality: Just hang on... personally id say add on boxes are a waste of time...but that's me...all the additional stuff mentioned cannot be done by a powercommander etc etc
As I say - check with Chris first to make sure he can reflash your ecu....that's his preferred way of working...just get your engine mods in place first...ie if your going to go full system, air filter etc etc do it all before you go...
A power commander has only 10 (on older models) parameter steps you can adjust as far as fuelling is concerned. A custom map on ECU can have as many as is needed. No real direct comparison really. As above additional parameters can also be set up on an ECU such as rev limit and individual cylinder fuelling needs, ignition advance etc.
Yes - forgot about that one Red....the rear cylinder on mine (and on any ducati done by Chris) is mapped differently to the front....
Id go for a remap every time over a re flash. Simply because every bike and engine is different every bike has different miles on it so the wear and tear again is different. The front or rear cylinder may not want equal fuelling and depending on witch cylinder gets hotter or cooler or the compressions could be slightly different this will constitute to different settings. That's my 2p worth ...
Erm...you have to "re-flash" to "remap"....or did I read that wrong, with the second point that's what I said....the rear cylinder is always mapped differently cos of airflow....
I think it's just a difference in peoples terminology.... I think with the old MM ECUs you can access them and 'Remap' (alter the fuelling on the OEM map) whereas the the newer ECUs you have to create a map then 'Flash' (upload) it to the ECU then if it needs altering create another map and 'Reflash' it to the ECU... Same outcome just slightly different in the way it's done..
I think Packman meant 'Remap' as in dyno tuning and 'Reflash' as just uploading a generic map ie. a DP ECU map In other words.....everyone is correct in their own special way
As i understand it, they plug into the bike, take a copy of the engine map and it then gets sent to Germany and hopefully not too long after the amended map is sent back and copied onto the bike and then they tweak it, but to be honest i can give a better assessment after tomorrow. I have had this done many times on my car and although the need was for to gain more power and better fuel consumption, the end result has been fantastic
