749 Getting To Know Each Other....

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by MushHaze, May 16, 2016.

  1. Hey folks,

Picked up my 749s a few weeks back and really been enjoying it so far. Looking for some ideas and opinions on what to do next with it. First Ducati and first vTwin, really like how it rides. Has a Termi race system, TSS rearsets and a slipper clutch. Some of things I am thinking about
    - I want to change the screen as it is not the correct one - holes do not match and previous owner drilled out holes on the screen to make it fit - I guess it was intented for a previous model 749. Any recommendation for a smoked screen to suit?
    - Rear hugger - does the 749s typically have a rear hugger? Mine obviously does not and i think it might be a good idea to put one on to protect the rear shock (the roads here in SW Ireland dont equate to Italy!!) Again any recommendations?
    - Suspension/Ride height..I have been riding it on the settings I bought it on and it's pretty damn nice but would the consensus be to set up that ohlins specific to weight/height/riding style. Also, would lowering it compromise the ride - I'd like to drop it a little if possible but I wont compromise the ride.
    - I think I need to get rid of the red rimtape/pinstripe...opinions?
    - Anyone using any of the Oxford luggage options on the Monoposto? being able to have a small bag on the back would be useful but ill use a backpack if it doesnt work.

  2. How's the midrange with a 57mm system on a 749?

  3. Nice bike. Search 'Carbonmoto' for a rear hugger . I bought the longer type one from them along with a front mudguard and the quality is spot on as is the fit. Very competitive prices too.
Personally I would definitely remove the red wheel tape but it's only my opinion.

  4. I have a 999 monoposto, and I would not use a tail pack (unless you weigh about 8 stone). On a mono the sub frame is alloy and not designed for more than the weight of the rider (which is sat fairly close to the mounting points on the main frame.

I'm just about to buy a Kreiga R30 back pack for when I need to carry some more stuff about, or can use a magnetic tank bag too.

    very nice bike BTW :)

    Deaks :)

  5. Mate,
That's a nice looking bike, careful not to go over the top it'll get too cheesy, I'm doing mine now, I'm adding black addons to a red bike as I like the black/red on the R model,
Get out and enjoy it when the suns out and do the addlns in the winter!!!

  6. mate first time out on a ducati so I can't compare!

  7. Depends what else had been done, stock motor with a remap struggles.

  8. Yes, I don't dislike the red accents but it does need restraint.
I have black grips with subtle red inserts on mine. Those could look good. Also, black levers with red anodised adjusters could suit.

  9. A fine big box of spares came with the bike and there was an ECU in there, one of the previous owners was a ducati mechanic, it rides great anyway and I haven't really given it enough beans to notice any flat spots. and the noise oh man!!

  10. It has those exact levers!

Pinstripes to go, carbon rear hugger and new screen will be done once the irish winter sets back in - that could be tomorrow!

  13. Question, first thing i want to do is sort out the screen. Does the 2007 749s come from the factory with the pilot light in the screen? and if yes, are they straightforward to install?

That and the rear hugger will be the first jobs, really beginning to enjoy the bike now so I plan much fettling over next few monts to get it the way I want it.
