Odd issue just occurred, after a riding for a while we decided to stop for a break. Turned the ignition off removed the key then suddenly the engine started turning over on its own. Put key back in and turned on bike started as normal, turned engine off starter motor turned engine over again with no key in ignition. Repeated this a few times then then it did stop as normal, engine management light was on as well when the issue occurred, the engine management light briefly came on riding home as well for about 3 seconds. This problem seems to only occur when the engine is hot, dealer has replaced a starter relay but problem is still there, so its going back in shortly.
When you say the engine management light was on when the issue occured, do you mean the dash was still powered up even though you had removed the ignition key?
Hi, No the dash is off when key is removed, the management light is visible when the ignition is turned on.
Ah I see. My thoughts were that if the screen was on as well then there's likely a problem in the ignition circuit but if that's not the case then there's almost nothing else on the starter motor circuit. It's just the starter motor, the battery and the main starter relay. M = Starter motor 9 = Relay 11 = Battery Maybe there's some damage to the wires/plug that the relay sits in?
After 2 attempts to fix this issue, my bikes back at the dealer third time lucky hopefully. They have replaced a couple of relays I believe back in September, not used bike since October until Saturday. Nice hot day and the issue appears again.
Fuelling issue? Over fuelling due to faulty ECU. Fuel ends up in oil. Have you checked your oil level? Gone up? Due to fuel in oil, after ignition switched off, the engine still has enough fuel to keep it going. Sounds nuts I know but it's a known issue in some cars. All down to faulty ECU
