1200 DVT 42t Sprocket Woes

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by GaryO, May 21, 2016.

  1. Got a 530 42T supersprox and quickly dismantled the back end of my Multi , only to find the bloody cush pins wont fit through the holes on the sprocket, much gnashing of teeth followed.:mad:

Anyone else has this problem or can think of a way to fix it ? I was thinking of splitting the metal on the cush pin down one side ?

  3. Ordered the right one as advertised, I cant understand why the holes would be a different size ?
Theres a slight lip on the underside of the sprocket so they can only be pushed in from the front

  9. From that part number I take it you ordered a red one ? If that is the case it looks like it should end in 42 not 47. Andy

  10. Will check it out, cheers bud :upyeah:

  11. Should be straight swap. Could it be you have it the wrong way around?

  14. Big positive difference with the 42 fitted ?
Much work to change the sprocket ?

  15. Not managed to ride it yet , finished it late on.

Pretty straight forward to do the work (ahem, sometimes!) Hardest bit was torquing up the sprocket nuts when you dont have the right tools to hold the sprocket.

Managed to finish all my work though , fitted BST's with M7RR's to front and rear and had to swap the front disc assembly over from the original wheels. Service manual works wonders if you feel a little apprehensive about tackling anything.

  16. i'm riding for 2 weeks now with 2 extra teeth :grinning:
and can really recoment it to any DVT rider!

easier to handle in the city, much more smooth when in low revs 2nd gear, more overal power throughout the rev range  now finally the DWC lights come on in first, second and third gear :sunglasses:

  17. @Schifi how does it effect the 80/90 MPH ish cruising speed for revs, and fuel consumption?

  18. @MaDProFF
Although I don't have the DVT model, my experience in the ~1000 miles that I have done with the new gearing (42T back, 15T front) is overall a very positive one. No change in consumption whatsoever (and this has been tested in combined cycle). I think this is partly because now 6th is much more usable, especially in the speed window you mentioned. Overall more grunt everywhere. 2nd gear is much more usable in the city but 1st is even more jerky (but I use it far less now in the city). Very happy indeed.

  19. Did mine on Sunday and I've just got back from a ride.

What a difference, way better and transforms the bike.

I just have one question, why don't they come with this size rear sprocket as standard?

  20. You guys are doing better than me - I can't get the nut undone on the sprocket side even with a compressed air impact driver and a meter long 3/4" breaker bar. Haven't tried using any lubricant (PlusGas) or heat yet. I have no problems with the other wheel nut but that has been off a couple of times for new tyres.
