hi guys anyone ridden the new 939 and compared it to the 821? Also what's the service intervals inc valve clearance and are the belts still every 2 years?
I had a test ride on the 821 hyperstrada and bought the 939 sp. the 939 feels like it has buckets more torque, but if I already had an 821 I'm not sure that alone would warrant the change. Off the top of my head I'm sure he said 30000 miles or 5 year belt changes. But I'm probably miles off lol
I've got an 821 and plan to test a 939 when its in for a service next week, i'll try and remember to update this thread with my thoughts.
I have an 821 SP and rode a 939 at the Panigale Trackstar event yesterday. The 939 definitely feels stronger and more urgent which I guess is down to the increased capacity and torque, but the best thing about the Hyper is the handling and agility which feels the same as the 821. For me the 939 is better but probably not by enough to justify the cost of changing. The 939 had a full Termignoni system which sounded really deep and was popping and banging on a closed throttle.
i must have read the distance in km rather than miles. suits me though as mine will go the full term before it needs the big service, i dread to think how much it will cost though
More miles, less maintenance. The enjoyment of riding, reliability and maximum containment of maintenance costs are among the main criteria that drive every engineering project in Ducati. We have spread out services to intervals of 15,000 miles and on some models the main Desmo Service is not necessary until 18,000 miles. Even the simplest services, the Oil Service, have been spaced out to 7,500 miles or 9,000 miles, values that represent an absolute reference for high performance engines. Furthermore, Ducati continuously invests in the technical training of its dealership staff: only through the Official Ducati Service network will you find the skills and tools needed to carry out all those fundamental procedures that will ensure your Ducati continues to perform at the highest level. Remember that the documentation supplied with your bike contains a lot of useful information: from the specific colour code, to advice on winter care, or details about key maintenance. You can download a digital version of your Maintenance and User Guide (and Spares Catalogue) from the side menu. Maintenance Operations

You're right about belts at 18k though. Servicing Plan N4'11 821 - Ducati Servicing - Ducati Bikes Glasgow
As per my earlier comment, I took a 939SP out yesterday whilst my 821 Strada was in for a service. What can i say, I was never really of the opinion that the Hyperstrada suspension is bad, but my god the SP suspension is GOOD! I found myself aiming for potholes and speed bumps I would normally avoid just to test out how good it was at smoothing them out. Engine wise I would say there is a bit more urgency in the rev range but not enough to make the leap from an 821 to a 939, the exhaust note is the same. The gear position indicator is nice to have as are the LED indicators on the handguards. Do I intend to upgrade from an 821 to a 939? Yes, but only as I intend to upgrade from a strada to an SP. I have used the panniers once in 2 years, the windscreen makes no difference to me but I am 6'5 and 18 stone so unless it was a riot shield that is to be expected. I did use one of the power sockets back when i used my phone as nav but I have a wired in garmin now so there is no need for these. I will miss the centre stand for chain maintenance but i'm sure a paddock stand will suffice as i don't do a huge number of long trips where I will need to lube away from home (oooo err). Please don't take this as a slight on the strada, Its a great bike but for me the SP makes more sense for my style of riding. here is a pic of the SP i rode yesterday
