1098 Carbon Or Aluminium

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by Android853sp, May 28, 2016.

  1. Okay, so I have a little spare cash to spend on a bigger fuel tank for the R and I have found both an aluminium and a carbon tank (both new) in my budget. People's preference and reasons why appreciated. Andy

  2. Ally. Looks nicer. Lasts longer.

  3. Unless you are endurance racing, or fitting one to a Desmo. I would spend the cash on a nice Euro track trip.

Seems daft to spend extra for a light tank, only to put more heavy fuel in.

  4. I could lose 15 kilos for free if weight was the issue ;), it's more to do with getting more miles from a tank and not having to panic after I've done 70-80 miles. Going to be a while before I'm comfortable on the 1098 on track so it's fortunate I have my 853 and we've already paid for 2 days open pit lane at Jerez :D. Life long bachelor, semi retired, no debts so money to burn - no abuse please. Andy

  5. Sounds to me like you need both in your world...:upyeah:

  6. Carbon is lush, but doesnt like some fuels afaik, so alli would be a better bet

  7. Deleted that sarcastic reply because I just twigged what you meant, both tanks. Apologies. Andy

  8. And most race series have banned carbon tanks, allegedly dont crash well

Personally tho, I've always wanted a carbon tank, just like carbon wheels

  9. I had the same problem with the low tank range so bought a 20 ltr Beater Alloy tank . Makes a big difference

  10. Where did you buy it from ? Thanks, Andy

  11. Are you going to paint it or leave it bare? Aluminium is silver, might clash with the 'R's gold. Could cause OCD issues. :Shy:

  12. Hadn't thought that far although being OCD is most definitely not one of my many vices, far too tidy for that :D. Andy

  13. Hi Andy, I bought mine from Samurider.com in Japan, the part number for the 20 ltr tank is beater0031. Same profile as your original tank, just slightly wider and taller. It cost £1100 + import duty, add the cost of paint, new pump and filler cap and you're up to £2000.

  14. just had a look on their website and the cost has gone up since I bought mine, now 240,000 Japanese Yen (approx £1500)

  15. Isnt the corse se one bigger and alli?

  16. Yeh, had a quick look and followed the link to the Beater "English" web site. They make 4 different capacity tanks and I can't tell the difference between the 20L Type B and the plain 20L. Absolutely no explanation whatsoever. Liked the 23L though. Andy

  17. I think the corse se is ally and 18ltr

  18. I thought about getting the 23L but you can feel the extra weight with the 20L when it's full so glad I didn't get the bigger one.

  19. How interchangeable are the 1198S Corse SE, 1198R Corse SE and the 1198 SP petrol tanks with the 1098R ? Andy

  20. IIRC the aluminum tank from the SP etc has a 19ltr capacity, as well as being lighter, and is a straight fit with all other 848/1098/1198 tanks.
