  1. How have people found these guys?

Had my first dealings with them yesterday after booking in for a 7k service in March!!

I was advised it would be £250. Bit steep I thought but hey ho at least it’ll have the FSH.

When I spoke to the guy back then I mentioned that I’d like to replace my mirrors with indicator blankers

“Sure no problem at all, you buy them bring them along and I’ll get someone to fit them when we do the service.”

£70 later I turn up there yesterday leave it with him (along with some new Puig grips he said he’d fit “no problem”, a single stubby ASV lever I couldn’t manage to fit myself – I did the right side one but couldn’t get the barrel out on the left and a decal I said if you get time stick it on for me. Again, no problem.)

I got a phone call at 12 yesterday lunchtime saying it was all done and ready to collect.

I turned up at 5, and was met with the infamous dealer line “I’ve got some good news and some bad news for you”...

The good news was they’d managed to stick the decal on and change the oil and filter. The bad news was the indicators - he suddenly advised were a 2 hour job and “we’d have had to charge you labour for that” and “we couldn’t get the bar ends off as they were stuck and didn’t want to force them so we haven’t fitted them either”.

They then passed me a bill for £350. £100 more than I was quoted in March.

Does this sound acceptable to everyone? Have to say I was very disappointed.

(Mods feel free to move if this is in the wrong section thanks)

  2. How big a job is changing the indicators on your bike? On a Multistrada, for example, the indicator wires are plugged into the harness underneath the fuel tank so changing indicators is a job which requires removing the tank, and that requires removal of all the bodywork (about 50 screws) and replacing it afterwards.

For a full Desmo service (but not for a minor service) bodywork and tank has to be removed anyway for access, so changing indicators would be a negligible amount of extra work. It would be unrealistic for a customer to expect a dealer to do two hours of extra work for nothing, and it would likewise be a mistake for a dealer to allow a customer to believe that is what they had agreed to do. Just a guess, but maybe Hyside thought it was a Desmo service when you mentioned this, then realised later it was a minor service. If so, that is a mistake anybody might make.

  3. So £350 and 3 hours work to change the oil and filter, stick a ducati corse decal on and fit one stubby lever sounds about right?

TBH it’s the last time I’ll be using an official dealer. All for the sake of a stamp in a log book? Just not worth it.

Pete, just for the record, i was very clear i had an 899 that required a 7k service. Im not sure how that could get confusing.

  4. All I would say about not using official dealers is that the kit to synchronise the electronic rbw throttle is probably not exactly widely available and I know people report that the bike is much smoother and more manageable with this done. Perhaps use a really experienced independent who specialises in Ducatis still.

Where I am that would be JHS in Bristol probably but it's a difficult thing. The unfortunate thing is that this isn't really related to Hyside but all major franchise dealers, the time pressures are killing them and they are getting sloppy in the way they communicate. No excuses though!

  5. 2 hours to do the indicators!! I can do them in 10 mins.. They are fiddly but not 2 hours fiddly

I do all my own servicing apart from the 15k one which it will be going to our man Nelly. Anyway I had to take it in theb other day as then Engine light kept coming on. I asked if they could reset the service light. Bike is out of warranty and I know how to use a spanner so cant see why Id pay someone to change my oil and do the 7.5k service as its pretty basic.
They point blank refused to do it, we want you to come here for services he said. Fuck you I thought

  6. ive got fairly limited tools and knowledge tbh, how easy a job is it?

is this basically what i need to follow? i.e is it the same process for the 899?

    cheers

  7. he said something about having to take the whole of the front off?

  8. Because the fairing is different for the 959/899 I would only suggest that the video may not be totally correct. The routing of indicator wires may be difficult.

Ducati reading replaced my clock support on my 848 under warranty, it holds the whole front end, they did it in 1 hour, so it's funny how quick jobs can get done when they are paying for it

  11. Cheers ive just sent design corse a pm, see what they say.

  12. From what I've experienced the new 'transparent' costing per job has led to bigger bills. The mechanic at my local dealer was a relatively quick worker which meant the labour costs weren't anymore than they had to be. However now, so the dealer can give you a fixed price (supposedly) each job has now been given a specified time whether it takes more or less time to actually complete you pay the stated price. The problem is I think Ducati chose their slowest worker to time each job. It was probably done out in Italy with cappuccino breaks and afternoon naps included!.

  13. agreed, my mate worked at a Yamaha dealer though and would you believe that Yamaha gave something like 8 hours to do the gearbox warranty replacement on the R1, now.... Tht's a big old job as it's probably 3 hours to get the engine out and back in alone.. poor gits.

  14. I knew hyside were full of shit and they just couldn’t be bothered or were under staffed. Shame they can’t be honest with people.

I got this impression when they said my bike was ready at 12 and there was still a grease monkey fiddling with it when I went round the side at 5 oclock to see where it was.

    Your loss mates.

Mods feel free to close the thread thanks.

  15. They sold me an SFS about 2K undervalued in my opinion - they are just clawing that back so it's maybe my fault - ying and yang :smileys:

  17. so you got a quote for a service, then asked them to carry out extra work? you should have asked them if there would be extra cost involved. i work in the motor industry and just love it when customers add 'just do's' on the end of a job and expect it to be free.

  18. Completely agree service extras shouldn't be free i was just questioning whether it took 3 hours to change the oil and filter, fit one lever and put a decal on. I don't know I'm not a mechanic but it just sounds a lot to me.

Triumph charged me 3 hours labour for a 12k service with valve clearances.

  19. there are multiple complaints from the original post. Firstly £250 for 'just' an oil and filter change. Is that really all they do for your £250? Have you asked what's is involved, I think there are links on the Ducati website detailing exactly what is carried out on a particular vehicle and at which service. Manufacturers set the times it takes and I've never come across one that gives you time in the service to have a coffee and chat to the other lads in the workshop or even chat up the girl on reception.

You're correct, they should have told you there would be a charge for extra labour, but that works both ways, you should have asked too.

They have told you the extra work took at least two hours and charged you £100, now I bet their hourly rate isn't £50. So reading between the lines have they tried to do you a good turn by reducing your bill as they couldn't carry out all of your requests.

Lastly the 'just do' jobs themselves. Fitting a decal. Did they just peel it off and slap in on haphazard or did they clean the panel, apply masking tape and measure and mark off exactly where the decal needed to be? I'm not saying this is what happened as I don't know, but unless you asked neither do you. I could go on and on, but running or working for a dealership isn't a license to print money through pulling people's pants down.

  20. What's with this font Pete? Curious as to why you change it for all your posts. Ruins the Feng Shui of the page. :)
