Hi I have managed to acquire a lovely set of termis second had for a good price and want to get them on my 748 ASAP. They are the standard diameter so same as my originals and are only the cans so not the full system. My question is, can I just do a straight swap or is there anything else I need to do? Can anyone help with some advice please? Thanks Mark
They are a straight swap, half an hours job, sometimes a change of chip will improve running, fit them and see. Steve
Hi Steve thanks for the info. I'll stick them on tomorrow. Any ideas or recommendations as to the chip? When you say may improve running, does that mean the termis may make her run a little rough? Cheers Mark
In the olden days a set came with a new chip, which basically enriched the mix a bit. I'd try them and see, the mix can be enriched easy enough in the ecu by turning the trim pot. All a bit guessology without a O2 meter. Whack 'em on!
My old 748 had cans on it without a special chip. Ran fine. Got an FIM Ultimap chip for it and to tell you the truth I couldn't notice any difference! As @Nelson said...whack 'em on!
Here are some before pics, it looks like I'll be sticking them on Friday now I will post some pics when done. Cheers for all your help.
The Ultimap chip is no longer available new as the company went out of production some time back. From Ducati MS (Ultimap out of business! After 20 years in the motorcycle industry, UltiMap (also known as FIM or Fuel Injected Motorcycles) has ceased manufacturing. fuelinmoto.com.au - Registered at Namecheap.com) There are copies but they can be hard to track down. I may be right in saying that JHP may be able to help here if you need one, they at least will have something suitable as they use to sell pipes branded as JHP, but which were probably Termignonis quite some time back. I have a set and they look and perform like stock Termignonis. These are the 748 chips that are available from Ducati as far as I have found out, but there are likely to be others. 965014AAA (08054/6) - 748 Twin-seat silencers Racing 965028AAA (08054/17) - 748 Biposto silencers Ø 50 965036AAA (08054/7) - 748 Biposto complete assembly Ø 50 Other options are a Power Commander to fill in any holes in the fuelling map or a custom chip from someone like JHP. You will often find that a stock Ducati upgrade chip is not that good at covering all the fuelling issues (if you do encounter any) as they are just a basic setup. I had big gaps in my fuelling when I used such a chip and the bike ran very rich in places. A final option could be to try an 748SP or 748SPS chip as they came with Termignoni's as part of their sales kit on a new bike. The SP often came with 50mm pipes though, the SPS had 45mm pipes. I have a modified SPS chip in my 748SPS and that runs fine. So try try a stock chip first as suggested and then if it doesn't work then you might want to explore the above possibilities.
Not fitted them yet my little girl has not been well so they are still under my bed in bubble wrap, hopefully get them on this weekend if the weather is OK
At last they are on, took me about an hour in total a bit tricky especially the springs! They look and sound amazing took her to work, performance seemed OK, she does not like waiting in traffic, it was about 22degress and she usually runs at about 80 degs but if you sit at lights it soon creeps up to 100 I was getting worried that she might overheat and break down, I remember last year she didn't like sitting around! Is this normal to go up to 100 degrees?
Looking good, just need to de fog those headlights. I just did mine, I tried all the instructions none of which worked.
How did you do it? I did find on the web an excellent set of instructions with great photos last year but I can't find it now. Did you have to remove the lights? I've heard you can do it with them still on the bike
