Bike Stolen.... Already Recovered

Discussion in 'Hypermotard' started by pisquano, May 31, 2016.

  1. just a quick one to inform you fellas that my bike was stolen at 4am.... recovered by the police at 9am... the broke my Almax series III chain no problem and also broke the ground anchor. the lock was intact.
thanks to Bike Trac - if anyone here had doubts about getting it.... DO IT!!!!!

is my bike now automatically a Cat D, even though it is undamaged? they loaded into a van and parked it nicely in a side road 10 minutes away....

  2. Glad you got your bike back. Any clues as to how they broke your Almax and ground anchor? (pm preferred).

Did you inform your insurance the bike had been stolen? If there's no damage and you're not making a claim it will not be recorded. Only people with access to MIAFTR2 will be able to tell it's stolen recovered.

  3. ok I think I got it wrong. Cat D is only when the insurance thinks there has been substantial damage. in this case the insurance hasn't been informed as the bike is already back in my possession -- the bike has no damages whatsoever

  4. just to be clear - in this situation do I have to inform my insurance, or it's optional? I will have the bike checked, but it's absolutely undamaged, and I would hate to do the wrong move only to have its resale value affected unjustly

  5. Good stuff, i'd imagine you have to at least inform the insurance company.

  6. They only stipulate "any accidents or claims". They don't mention attempted theft.

  7. Something tells me youre living in London.....

  10. not sure. they just left my lock intact (an Abloy 362) - I only found a remaining U shaped piece from the Almax.

  11. Sorry to hear of the break-in but great to hear you got it back so quickly! Do you mind mentioning the chain-link diameter you used?

  12. the Almax series III is 16mm

  13. OK, so allegedly not hand croppable (word?) so would assume grinder. Was this in the street or in a garage? Never heard anything? Neighbours? Guessing the van they found it in was stolen too... Just glad you got it back!

  14. I had a bicycle stolen, not the same I know but bear with me...

They were in plain view, on multiple cameras and it took them 7 minutes to grind through the chain. People like that simply do not care. I never saw that bike again.

its a bloody pain but i had a blade knicked out my garage .the mess they made to get it
tow rope around garage defender pulling up tarmac
now i have loads of stuff for my multi
remote passive movement alarm is good, went off recently a spider went accros it lol
    ground anchor plus chain
several large abus padlocks on garage door
new garage defender long bolts into concrete
    and a shotgun licence ;)

  18. Don't tel other insurance company. There is absolutely no need to.

I wouldn't trust that they don't seem you s higher risk as a result if you do tell them, regardless whether you claim or not.

Might be an idea to invest in an alarm, and use 2 bike chains from now on.

  19. Is that so? I just want to avoid my insurer to find out at a later stage and use it as an "excuse" not to pay a future claim. Also I don't want my resell value to be impacted. The bike hasn't been damaged in the slightest way simply moved a few blocks away

I'm searching online but can't find references. But this must be a common question right? After all there's plenty of bikes with BIKETRAC that are recovered within hours
