  1. Has anyone tracked a 1299 with Akra slip on and been ok with the noise level.

Thinking its a tad louder than the old 899 with Termi's.

  2. I'd venture to suggest if it's an MSV track, the bike would have to be showroom standard, no alternative exhaust. Andy

  3. Hmm
I put the baffles in to see if it made a difference, slightly less but nothing major.

  4. Just got back from brands hatch. 1299 with standard cans 102db. That was after applying the trick of putting it on the side stand before reving it so the pipe isn't pointing down so much so the sound isn't bouncing off the floor.
Limit for the day was 101db but the guys let me through as they said "its got standard cans and we know 1299 with standard cans will be just ok on the drive by"

  5. No limits had a Thursday evening available last week. I asked on FB this very question, and was told no chance, and that even standard 1299 can be troublesome.

959 owners have one up on us now, the 1299 is officially useless for UK track days, except a full noise day at donington and Anglesey (6 hour drive).

  6. I'm quite happy to sell you my old Euro4 exhaust!..

  7. Haha. I just use Braintree as my track instead. Hunting down other bikes MaxWrist style.

  8. I've booked a trackday at castle combe in August. Just looked at their noise restriction which is different from any other measurement I've seen. It says
    • Bikes silenced to 105Db (tested at 3/4 throttle at 0.5 metre)
If 3/4 throttle means 3/4 revs ie around 7,500 : anyone know what the standard cans measure at this level?

  9. There's a very good chance you'll be over 105 db at 75% throttle. Castle Combe sound testing is very strict and they follow their own unique procedure. I've only ever managed 1 day there, which was a cancelled race day.

Take lots of sound cancelling material with you.

  10. I struggled to get my 583 Monster DD bike onto a track day at CC... Had to put a baffle in. You have no chance with anything else!

  11. Any idea on how to deaden the sound on a standard exhaust? There's no where to baffle it - or does anyone make a baffle? Can deadening material in the panels to quieten the engine noise make a significant difference?

  12. Just had a thought about trying to bring the numbers down and it might sound a bit silly...

Is there any way you'd be able to put some foam (like 1" thick or more) on the ground just under the exhaust to try and absorb some of the sound that would otherwise bounce off the tarmac and potentially cause issues? You'd look a bit special and don't know if it would be allowed but if it brings the dB's down then it's worth a shot. I don't have any kit to test this but would be interesting to see any results?

  13. I presume you're intending on taking a Panigale there? Not wanting to be the bearer of bad news but my 1199 with Termi end cans with baffles fitted measured 115db at 3/4 revs and 0.5m...! Standard may be a tad less but not 10db less.

I've done castle Combe 3 times but only ever on my VFR800 with stock cans - even that made 103db one year and it's whisper quiet!

My club rents the track once or twice a year and many standard bikes (5 last time) just couldn't get through the static test; none of which were Panigales. There's a list as long as my arm on their website that advises 'these bikes in stock form may not comply with sound testing limits'

  14. Anyone had the 959 noise tested yet? Johnny has a long term loan one in Performance Bikes and says it still gets 103dB?!

  15. None of this is sounding good :(

  16. Just looked at the castle comb web site. Couldn't find a list of bikes and noise issues but there was this

"You MUST have your bike sound checked prior to taking to the track. If your machine fails, we will refund your fee less an administration charge of £20"

it would waste a day but at least I'd get most of the money back

  17. I wouldn't even bother trying Castle Combe, there's no chance you'll be able to run from everyone I've ever spoke with.

  18. Hmm booked already - although just emailed them to ask about it- agree there's no point in going if I'm not going to get in.

  19. Amazing, so basically if you have a Honda C90 you might get on but any other sports bike is not going to happen haha
