Just tried using some of this on my black paint. What a waste of good money. Put some Ventureshield on in the end - much better. Anyone tried the stuff ?
No, but most Oxford products are crap and aimed at the low end of the market, the results meet my expectations
'If you had the clear stuff its pants. I bought some for my new(back sept last year)black Sv650s, clear was rubbish. So i bought the gloss black and that was 100x better. about 1mm thick and protected the panels from scratching a treat. Easy to remove and hot water and soap took off any left over residue. Tho takes a hair dryer and perserverance to fit it to curved panels without it rippling. Its almost too thick a protective film. BTW, Have u even tried it Freak???? Oxford have a good reputation for knocking out half decent stuff at a good price,
My other half used the kawasaki stuff on his GTR it was rubbish!! He then went to local sign shop and bought some 10 year black and clear film which worked well he used a hairdryer to get out air bubbles and crinkles....when the need arises i prefer carbon fibre lol
Just spent the afternoon putting three bits of Venture Shield ( 3M protection on ). It's a F****** nightmare. Rather not have it, but I paid £100 for it at last years show. Thought it was a good idea.
I use Ventureshield, applied by the dealer, it's totally transparent, hard wearing and, when you rip it off, the paintwork is still perfect and as new. As for Oxford products, I could only describe them as being shite.
There is an art to the application Clean hands or powder free gloves Hot air gun Lots of soapy water (not to soapy) Spreader And above all a clean surface
does anyone have venture shield on their bike? can i see the pic ?... was thinking to get it done on my 848 evo , as i'm frustrated seeing small paint chip off on the 'nose' of my bike i know its normal wear but ....
I have it on my 1198, got 1 small stone chip within the first couple of weeks of owning the bike so decided to get it fitted Cut and paste from my previous response to Ventureshield question: "Ventureshield is great, I have it on my 1198s, My Wifes mini, and her TTS so I guess you can say we're fans, The TT is a motorway car and in 4000 miles have only had one stone chip, but to be fair my wife said it sounded like a bomb had gone off and has in fact dented the wing slightly, so guess it was more like a rock than a stone. My Wife bought me the kit for my bike when she was having her mini done, I think it was about £85.00, Putting it on is a real pain, I am pretty patient and super OCD but with 2 kids time is limited, also you need a pretty dust free environment and strip lights everywhere! so....to try and cut a longer storey shorter, I wasn't happy with the result. So I booked it in with a company in Birmingham called Covertec, They were fantastic the two guys Andy and Iain were straight on it removing my old venture shield and replacing with new, and I think its one of those projects that unless you have loads of time, may well be left to others. The lighting is very important as they had strip lights all along the walls etc etc. They also used a number of different strengths of soap solution and denatured alcohol to ensure adhesion. Sorry, rambled on again, any questions just let me know." To be fair ducatigirl pictures will probably be of little use because you really don't notice it, and any pictures will be trying to show up where you can see it if that makes sense. You can see some edges if you go looking but you would be best off to try and see it on someones bike thats the only way you can decide. Here is covertech's gallery and its my 1198s but you just cant see it in the pictures: www.CovertechMidlands.com :: Bike Gallery - Motorcycles Fitted with 3M VentureShield Paint Protection Film BTW I have nothing to do with Covertech, just had a good job done. Cheers Maccaa
Just buy a sheet of 3M clear Vinyl off ebay for pennies and cut what you need. It is the same stuff and venture shield
