1200 DVT High Beam Light Issue

  1. Hi all,
I would like to share with you having the new MTS1200 DVT (Standard version in particular) my issue with its light projector. Riding in the night on twisty and dark road outside the cities, I realized that the high beam light is very poor. I feel in danger when I switch from low beam to high beam and I must close the gas. Who else have this problem?
I compared the high beam light of the new DVT with the previous generation and the difference is very high in favor of the old one. I decided to go to a Ducati Service where I asked for a correct tuning of the tilt angle but no improvement. I wrote a couple of mails to the Ducati's Customer Service about this problem which is very critical for me since it is affecting the safety. The Customer Service told me that the engineers in Ducati need to collect data and analyze the problem but if we customers want to have a fix also on our bikes Ducati must first receive more customers' complains on this issue.
I already wrote on the Italian forum and I'm doing the same here. Hopefully more people sharing with me the same issue can join me in this "crusade"! Whoever is the owner of the Ducati MTS DVT Standard can write a mail to the customer service and claim for a fix.

I apologize for my English not always perfect.

  2. My other bike has a Philips H7 12W 55W X-treme vision bulb which is great. I've also tried the Osram H7 12W 55W Night Breaker Unlimited. Obviously check your bulb size & go for a branded decent one!

  3. Indeed I have now the Osram Night Breaker Unlimited as a temporary solution waiting for an official outcome of Ducati on the topic. The situation improved but is not great. Those bulbs are also quite expensive (32 euro from amazon) and have a small lifetime (250h). Can't be my solution or I'm going to spend more money in bulbs than fuel. The reflective part behind the bulb is really small and the beam result to be not sufficient, this because Ducati decided to fit an halogen projector in the small space designed for the FULL LED technology which needs less space. I have a scooter light beam on a 160Hp bike which costs 17460 euro... this is ridiculous!

  4. I have a Kawasaki GTR1400 which I'm currently trying to sell. I fitted Xenon lights to that when I bought it and they light up the sky at night. It was a simple plug in but the reflector behind the light needed to have a slighlty bigger hole in it to accomodate the unit. I'd recommend them but dont know how they would fit with the Duc electrics

  5. Just do the wiring mod so low beam stays on with high beam. That way, no interruption and need to get off the gas.

  6. I put HIDs on my 2011 Multistrada and they helped enormously on dip. Main beam is still poor, but with the 'both on at once' mod the dipped beams help out.

  7. What's wrong with the main beam then, is it not bright enough, to diffused or just aiming in the wrong place or all three.

  8. I know it's not a solution, and you probably don't want to hear this, but the LED lights on the S are superb

  9. It's the best OEM motorcycle light I've ever seen, but there's still plenty of room for improvement. I think the high (main) beam pattern is way too tight. The low (dip) beam turns off when the high beam is on, so I lose all width just to see a bit further ahead. I bought the aux lights, so hopefully that solves the problem. The lights would be excellent if they could keep both beams on, so I get distance and width at the same time.

  10. I agree, the LED high beam is no fun at all. Tight narrow spot surrounded by a dark ring, very distracting.

  11. Just do the mod. Old multi's had similar issue. Low beam lights nicely in front of you but high beam lights way ahead and leaves a big black hole right in front of you. A diode and a bit of wire solves this.

  12. Well is not so easy on the DVT. The bulbs are powered directly from the dashboard so the mod of the old MTS1200 is not applicable. I also fear that such a big load could burn out the dashboard which is designed to distribute max 110W a time. Anyway find a solution for me could not be a problem and I can also have fun to customize my bike. The real problem at moment is that first of all the bike is under warranty and I can not touch anything moreover I paid the bike enough to get a proper fix from Ducati. I can not accept that the DVT Standard performs so bad with high beam light, the performance are even lower than the previous generation. Here we are talking about safety and Ducati should be forced to design and deliver a fix free of charge for the customers. That's way I'm looking for more and more owners of this bike so we can ask all together to get a better and safer night riding.

  13. Does anyone retrofitted led headlight into base model? It's the only extra that i miss on my base dvt...

  14. My LED dipped beam stays on with the high beam, are you sure yours switches off.

  15. Totally sure. In base model, low and high beams are never switched on at the same time

  16. Sorry, my reply was directed at engineered2win, who said his dipped beam turned off when the main beam came on, on his LED lights.
