133.8mph While At The Dealers?

  1. IMHO it sounds like you didn't trust your dealer in the 1st place, for me personally I picked who I take my bike to be serviced by and he's not going to run it harder than I do and knows far more than I so it wouldn't bother me in the slightest, as said above if a ticket appears it's not your's and 133 mph doesn't take much getting to on an 1199 does it. I'm with Jolley on this

  2. This isn't in Germany though. It would have been in work hours, not 2am in the morning on a motorway. In Germany, on the autobahn's that permit that speed, the other drivers are aware of the higher speeds, here they're not expecting it.

130 isn't fast on track, on a public road it's almost 2x the maximum speed other road users expect you to be going. Hense my Pani spents 90% of its life getting its ass ragged off on tracks.

  3. .
its always gone on cars, bikes whatever it's a perk giving a customers vehicle a bit of stick after a job in the workshop,I must say I'd prefer an unknown not to ride my 15k plus (I imagine)pride and joy in that manner, I would lend my 15k bike to my mate and be disappointed if he didn't ride like that, even if someone at the bike shop had said we will give it some stick etc that would have been enough for me just crack on..it's always gone on just the tracker has moved the goalposts a tad IMO

  4. I cannot believe the lack of moral compass demonstrated in this thread. What was done was completely inappropriate and to call it a "perk of the job" defies belief.

  5. Your pride and joy will have had a hiding off a grease monkey at some point love... Factamundo ...just we never knew officially :grinning:

  6. Agreed, some serious ego's kicking around. It's absolutely fine to not expect a dealer to do 23 miles on your bike AFTER they have already done the service. Let alone 130mph because IF they do get a ticket u still have to go through all the utter arse ache of proving it wasn't you.....

  11. So no one on here has ever gone above the speed limit?

If it were a Scrambler i would be concerned. As its an 1199 i wouldn't be.

  12. Hands up everyone who has taken someone else's bike out at twice the legal speed limit, without that person's permission!

    This'll be interesting ...

  13. Its not that the bike cant take the speed, its that I wouldn t expect any bike shop to that with any customers bike.

  14. It isn't about egos, it is about what you want and choosing your battles. If you don't want to use them, don't use them. If you want to tell them and get an apology, tell them. If you think they deserve to be named and shamed, name and shame them. I understand you may have lost trust in them, but nobody was hurt and there are bigger things to worry about in the world. This may be a big thing for you, in which case you do what you think you need to in order to achieve the conclusion you think it deserves.

(Personally, I joke with the workshop about thrashing mine when I drop it off, and I always say as long as they fix any damage or tickets, go have a play... )

  15. Presumably the dealer fixes any long-term issues arising from thrashing the machine before the oil is properly warmed up.

Still, if you give your workshop folks permission, I see no problem with that.
How would you feel if you had not given permission? Or if you had stated categorically that they are not to "have a play"?

  16. At last a sensible comment.

  17. I think that is the important thing though... What the OP thinks, and what he wants to do..... We cannot decide for him, because we will all have a different opinion on this. I respect that some people will not appreciate it, and I can understand being upset with the dealer. However, beyond speaking directly to the dealer if the OP feels that strongly, I don't think anything more needs to be done. But that is just my opinion.

  18. If I lend my bike to my friend, I say, go on mate give it some stick. I also do myself because it's MY bike.

If it is a dealer and based on the fact that the OP has already told u the additional mileage was done after they had finished the job, which was also a service and doesn't require the use of 23 miles of your fuel... I would say it's taking the piss.

Personally I wouldn't bother with legal advise, I would go In and mention it and an apology would be absolutely fine for me. My point around legal advise here was that if the OP thinks he is going to take any action, then naming the dealer on a forum will give grounds for them to fight him back for repetitional damage and all that.

I still can't believe that people think that giving a friend who you presumably trust and respect a go on your bike and then a dealer using it for a 20 mile thrash after its ready for collection is the same thing.

As others have said, mention it to them, lf the response isn't satisfactory then take your business elsewhere, life's too short.

  19. Having relayed this to the office, we're all split. One guy mentioned his dad saw his Jag being ragged down some A roads whilst he was out shopping and the car was in for a service. Went to the dealer, told the boss man and waited for the car to come back. Driver was promptly sacked.

I personally feel that we have high performance vehicles, and I would expect them to be thoroughly tested before I get it back and put it through exactly the same thrashing. Last thing you want is something going wrong at speed. What they do need however, is somewhere more appropriate to do this. I would have no problems them caning it up and down a private industrial estate road a few times to check the engine etc... Doing so on public roads, presumably every couple of hours on different customers bikes, is chancing it a bit much.

I had a high speed cutting in issue that only seemed to happen over 110. Can't fix it if you can't see it and replicate it so I would expect the dealer to take it out and give it the beans.

  20. Twenty odd miles may be a jolly but it's not the end of the world and 130mph is pretty pedestrian for an 1199. Personally it wouldn't bother me at all as my dealer has watched the tracker when I've taken their demo 1199 test riding so I've hardly got a leg to stand on! I guess it's your relationship with the dealer that determines what you do but if you do feel wronged then much better to have a word first than name and shame as it's not murder.
