Bolt Self Loosening - Advice Please

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Robarano, May 30, 2016.

  1. Am I right in thinking that the bolt is tight against the bracket, but when you change gear the bracket moves up or down, so the bolt moves with it?
If so you need a longer bolt (assuming it locks into a hole that the bolts hits the bottom of) or the brackets needs drilling and a collar put in it slightly wider than the bracket so the bolt locks down on the collar and allows the bracket to swivel.
Can you put a lock nut on the back of the bolt?

  2. No @MaDProFF , as already said, it's a blind hole that would be very close to the crankcase if I drilled through. I wouldn't be able to get a lock nut on.

As for your other questions re: collars etc. I'm going to have a look at it today to see what's going on.

  3. Swap it for a self tightening one :smileys:

  4. Ooooooooo, now why didn't I think of that. The simplest ideas are the best. :)

    Do you have a link?

  5. Could just use some good quality Lock Tight, but do not tighten bolt down onto bracket, just back off a fraction so the bracket can freely move up or down

  6. No :Sorry:

  7. How about screwing in tight a piece of threaded studding with heavy-grade Loctite, and then putting a nyloc nut on the outside. Would the assembly still be dismantleable like that?
