replacement heated grips

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Unicycler, Oct 19, 2012.

  1. well left the bike in for a service and mentioned the wear on the original heated grips so they said they would replace them. They did to a new set with better grips but a different design for the throttle side. The ones now doesnt have the wire moving when you twist the throttle, its on a separate floating type body between the throttle grip and housing. Probably makes more sense as the feed is no longer a moving part. Anyone have these fitted ????

    will post pics up later.

  2. This grips, with the slip ring connection, where fitted on the 2012 bikes  I tested the 2013 MTS in Bilbao this month, and they have it as well.

  3. thats good to hear, so if anything they should be an improvement modification then :)

  4. Any pics ?

  5. That looks a better design....

  6. ye design is good, but the quality of the grip is far better than what came standard on my bike new 2011 1200st. (probably why the upgrade).....i wasnt too sure at the start when they were replaced, though now Andreas has said they are on the new models im happier !

  7. Hi all. I'll be looking for a set of heated grips for my MTS soon. Are the Ducati oe ones worth the extra over some of the cheaper ones you can get elsewhere?

  8. Much IMHO - they are integrated into the starter button and the dashboard display.

  9. Think they were £250 fitted when i looked at them, went for heated gloves instead.

  10. I had Oxford sport ones one my ktm and can't see any difference or advantages with the ducati ones to be honest. If they weren't fitted standard I wouldn't be buying them. Get yourself Oxford ones and put the money that you save through the tank and enjoy the bike !!!

  11. I saw the R&G ones for £40.00! Bit of a steal at that price. I did think about the Keis heated gloves at £100. Which would integrate with my heated jacket liner - but there's always the day when you just want to use the grips to take the chill off without the burden of all the rest of the kit..

  12. I have the Keiss jacket & gloves as well as the Ducati grips and tbh, when it is properly cold (sub 5 degC), the gloves do a better job.

But, I don't really like wearing them as they make my gloves uncomfortable/controls difficult to use, so I find the grips handy for taking the nip off, when it is say 8 degC and above.

They are expensive, but I do like the fact that they are integrated to the bike. Downside is the grips wear out double quick. I got bored waiting for a response from the dealer/Ducati, so put some £11 Grip Puppies over them instead.

  13. I decided when i got the multi not to put heated grips on it, with the last two bikes having fitted oxford ones that my finger ends still got cold, as i got a klan jacket a few years ago, and i really like that, decided the additional gloves were a good idea. They are not too thick, and although we have not had any really cold days to test them, i am sure they will be excellent.

  14. I have the Ducati fitted ones, and tbh I think they are very good. Integrated into the display, work off the starter button, and proper hot on the max setting, and great just to take that chill off on the lower settings

  15. I've gone for the Keis heated glove liners. Surprised to find they fit under my summer gloves quite easily. Will report back when i've got the bike as to how effective they are.

  16. Mine were just replaced under warranty with the new type as well. Thicker with more bobbles, don't seem to get quite as hot as the old ones. (Mind you it was impossible to run those on level 3 unless the weather was really arctic).

  17. That's exactly how my new replacement ones are too. Thicker, but not quite as hot. Hmmm, I miss the "hotness" on the very cold mornings... oh well..

  18. Am i right in saying the Ducati grips need to be programmed into the bike - or have i got it wrong?

  19. I think they have to be enabled in the ecu when fitted.
