1299s

  1. Hello, ducati people I've not been allowed to have a new toy for a while now. Family, moving home, busy with work blah blah blah. But,I'm going to have a look around on Sat at Moto Italia in Lincoln (where we now live) and fortunate enough to be able to look at a 1299s as life has been good to me recently. Couple of quick ?? What's on the horizon re Ducati any news on new bikes for next year? Last one was a 1198 and I have heard great things about the 1299. Oh and it's good to be back !

  2. No idea as far as news from Ducati, but any new bike will have to be Euro NCAP4 compliant so expect bigger 'Marmite' exhausts, probably like those on the 959. Personally I hate them...

  3. Cheers

Are there any discounts for cash nowadays ? What are the current rrps for the 1299s?

And wtf is this tri options ?
Pcp for bikes I presume.....might be worth a look at the figures

  4. Ducati have been giving £1000 vouchers from as part of demo trackstar days they have been doing at Silverstone and Snetterton recently so if you're quick about it then it's worth getting your dealer to enquire if you can get onto this as well (The vouchers are only valid if you go down the PCP route).

  5. Alternatively, do what I did and ask them to throw in the Akra cans if you were thinking of them anyway - over priced to buy afterwards. Of course, that does mean you can't use it on most UK tracks but that's another story...

  6. Oh, and welcome...:grinning:

  7. Welcome in, yes Tri Options is Ducati PCP.

Regarding next year, the exhaust is likely to get bigger because of Euro4, but there are two models due to be announced and WDW in a few weeks, very unlikely to be a sportsbike though.

See what deals u can get for sure!

  8. I did read something about a 90yr anniversary Superleggera/Panigale R type machine. That sounds amazing!

  9. Welcome David :)

  10. Cheers

    Thanks,that's my middle name

  11. So,I'm popping in to Moto Italia tomorrow (is it still ran by Phill?) and I'm going to take the little man with me to 1:cause as much carnage as possible, and hopefully in the middle of the mess get some realistic options 2: earn lots of browny points by keeping him out of the house for a couple of hours! 3: I think it's important that we have this bonding time together whilst I look at spending his inheritance.......

Roughly then, looking at a grand off then or at least this in kit thrown in. Any ideas on insurance, had a bike licence for 25 years but the 1198 went about 4 years ago so no ncb. I'm 44 clean licence etc will I need tracker fitted ?

    Again,thanks for all the help

  12. I would get some quotes now. I was in a similar situation with 5 years off bikes having sold my 848, and insurance companies wanted more than my first years insurance was straight after my test.... It was quite a shock (until I remembered I was dealing with insurance companies!)

  13. Insurance isn't cheap but I've got a multi-bike so they make up the figures anyway. Tracker will be mandatory as over £20k but you may choose to value lower to escape this but the tracker gives you good piece of mind so is worth the money. I've previously had alarm/immobilers only but much prefer not having to faff around with keyfobs.

Good luck at Italia, they were a good bunch last time I was up there but Tony (ex-main sales guy) has now moved to SMC in Sheffield.

  14. go for the 1299 with akras if you can , not much point in the 1299s unless you want to spend the extra 3k on a better track bike, its no faster. As its lower priced will be lower insurance . I'm 47 paying £400 fully comp with only 1 years ncb as been out of biking for 5 years so lost any discount. fitting trackers etc did not bring the price down so why pay more than you have to. depends if they want the sale really to what deal you get. I got mine for 17k all in with Akras icl 6 months tax yippeeee. As this was the deal 6 months back If I was you would try and push them to get as close to this as they can.

  15. With respect I completely disagree with this. This S model with the electronic event driven suspension is a much better road bike as it continuously adjusts and always gives a good ride whatever surface you are on. It takes all the discomfort you normally get from riding race bikes on the road and makes the bike a proper all rounder.
I'd actually go the other way and say that if you were considering a serious track bike then consider the base model and buying some posh suspension as you don't really need the electronic stuff.

  16. The S has Ohlins, that's gold and shiny so must have it....

On a serious note the OP sounds like he is lucky enough to have what he wants and the S also has lighter wheels etc. If he can afford it then fair play!

  17. if you miss all the pot holes and ride on our so called A roads the base model I ride is great. would not say its uncomfortable. compared to the early days when I was 20 riding the gsxr1100g where your wrists were screaming to you to stop and I was much thinner then. the modern bikes are not uncomfortable really. Its just the riders who can afford them and pay the insurance are getting older so aches and pains will always be a small factor.
But the Mid Life crisis will always win haha. I'm not riding on the B roads anymore haha.

  18. which ever one,,, lucky bu**er...

  19. Haha yeah agreed. I'm not implying there's anything wrong with the base model, it's way superior to most of the other bikes on the road.

  20. I know where your coming from I'm just trying not to loose my licence riding it.
