Couldn't get Druids right at all. Was too scared of losing the rear there to push on. And shell was even worse.
Ok so last one from Oulton! None of the vids show quite what it's really like due to the wide angle lens so I try and get tank, nose and tail angles so I can study what I'm doing. Plus it's a sexy ass.
I love Oulton, Cascades is my favourite, Clay Hill scares me, I never seem to turn left hard enough and get thrown to the RH side of the track.
After completing lvl 1 back in May, I did California Superbike School lvl2 at Silverstone today. I'll be honest, that I was a bit unsure as to how much I took away from lvl1 straight after, but after a few track days to absorb what I'd leant, I'd say it was worth doing for me. I learnt a lot at Level 2 today, and have booked to go back in August for Level 3 Anyone else been through the levels ? I only rode a motorbike for the first time last Oct, so i guess I'm quite an easy student to teach as I don't have years of bad habits to correct ? Pretty happy with today's photo too (before it bliimin pissed it down for the last session)
I know a few who came into bikes then straight to training and on track can really hold their own. Its a good route to take
That's an awesome shot for ~eight months into riding, you look really strong with your body positioning. You've done a similar route to me, I think being a prime candidate for upping the mid life crisis injury statistics is a great motivator for learning how to do it properly
I did level 1 a week after my test, and went as far as level 3. All were great levels, but 3 was the most interesting for me (hook turn!). I wasn't a life long biker, but held my own on the Desmodue grid after just these 3 levels and a year on a bike. I try to encourage any new bikers I know to do it, because it takes the guess work out of trying to figure out how to get round a corner (which is really one of the most important and enjoyable things about riding a bike). A picture from one of my CSS days back in 2008....
Had a good time at Cadwell last Tuesday. I was there for the evening sessions only, but got 4 20 minutes sessions for £45 which I think was pretty decent value! Obligatory mountain wheelie shot...
Nice shot, we were there last Monday/Tuesday day time, the weather was lovely on the Monday Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
We were really lucky with the weather on Tuesday evening as the track was totally dry, but looking at photos from earlier in the day it was clearly very wet at some point! Did you take the 899 out? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Was at Silverstone yesterday on the GP circuit with Focused Events. Apart from them screwing up the chrono timing the day went pretty smoothly. I stupidly opted for the novice group having not been to Silverstone before, I've learnt my lesson now that even if I'm new to a circuit to go with the group I'd normally be in. The biggest issue was getting past the 1000cc bikes as they were leaving me for dead along Hangar and the start/finish and then I was having to work hard through the corners to get past them. Here's a video, if anyone is interested, of my last session of the day where it took me forever to get past a Yamaha R1M and his buddy on a BMW S1000RR. If I go back to Silverstone, I think it'll have to be on thou... Best lap of the day was during this session which was a 2:38.
Those are some cracking laps Matt I've been there 3 times now and I'd be happy with those laps, so that's very impressive for a first timer at the track
Cheers Graeme, it took me until the end of the day to dip below the 2:40's and I think part of my getting quicker was just to try and make sure those pesky chaps on their thousands didn't come past me on the straights again!
Yeah great lap times for your first time there, the last time I was there with FE they messed up the chrono times as well
The other thing to be aware of in the novice group at Silverstone, is that if the day coincides with a FE BMW training day, they often lob that group in with the novices for a few sessions! I was doing the National on Sunday and they actually had their own group. If the numbers had been high enough this would have meant a 4 group day!
That track certainly suits the bigger bikes. I lost count of the amount of big bikes I'd overtake early in the lap only to have them come flying back past me on the Wellington or hanger straight. My little 600 sits on the rev limiter in 6th about 2/3 of the way down the hanger straight, so I'd probably be better off changing the gearing for there, but just can't be bothered Do you have a quick shifter on your bike Matt ?
Interesting. It looks, if anything that my bike could perhaps be geared down (if that's the correct terminology!) i.e to give it more punch out of the corners as I was nowhere near topping out, even down the hangar straight. No quick-shifter at the moment although it is on the shopping list...
