Coolest Ducati Series ... And Why?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Dave, Jun 23, 2016.

  1. I'd have to nominate the 851/888 series. It is just old enough to score on the "retro cool" front but it's not so old that it looks like it belongs in a retirement home and might smell of stale piss. Rather it looks like it means business in an understated "proper man's bike" kind of way, without trying to be noticed too hard. Fab.

  2. Must admit, I am a big fan of the 749 / 999... the looks still are enough to spark arguments and dynamically they're ace.

  4. As an ex 888 owner I have to side with Dave. What a great bike that was / is. The run of SP's was also the last of genuine limited runs for racing.

One of the very few bikes that I will re own again one day soon.

  5. Style / Design / Race Successes / quickest to appreciate in value of all mainstream models, say no more: 749 / 999 series... :smileys: 4684616959_82fe297784.jpg 1928d1109694436-foto-ducati-999-superbike-f03-e-f04-normal_ducati_999_sbk003_2004_02.jpg 999F03LH34_700.jpg

  6. Hyper motard....not like any other bike...a turbo charged tractor if you will and while not popular pretty well anyone whose not ridden one will discount it straight away as weird/odd but once you've had one youll not go back. Id have to fall on the aircooled side though and with that the 1100 purely cos of the sheer low end grunt. Very cool. Ive only uploaded the sc project stock photo as mine is a much bigger pic which the site doesn't like...

  7. The question was "cool".

  8. But is the 999 series the quickest to appreciate in value because it was the fastest to drop in value after a poor early reception ?
People say that only now it's grown into it's ugly duckling looks ?
On looks alone then the 1098's are the winner.

  9. Yep - and youre looking at it...! :)

  10. I think probably the 899/1199/1299 series is least cool. I mean I love my bike and its IMHO the easiest and most flexible Ducati I've owned BUT there is more than a whiff of VAG group about them.

I think the coolest series is probably the 748r/996r. I go out with my mate on his 748r and everywhere we stop people just stare at it, it's just got such a wow factor

  11. So the answer so far is 'whatever bike I have'?

Surely if you're looking a the ones that the 'cool kids' like its the Scrambler (at the moment)? Coolest Ducati for me? Nope but it has cache in the 'right' circles to be cool

  12. Not the scrambler - it was "trying" to be cool from the outset - ducati made it corporate cool....which means it isn't...

  13. Agreed. Somethings not cool if you're told its cool by the maker. Bit like valentines day......being romantic when you're being told to be romantic is about as unromantic as you can get....at least thats what I tell my wife

  14. I'd say if not my hyper then the 748r...its old, it's rare, it's air-cooled, it's classic ducati so cool...

  15. For me it's the 916 series esp the sp's and Sps .. They are what brought me back to bikes.. The first time I saw/heard one my jaw dropped.. I was a 70s biker with yams etc on l plates as you could ride upto 250cc bikes as a learner..
I rember when I took training in about 2001 I think to get a fast pass on my bike test, our lady instructor asked all 3 of us what bike we were going to get if we passed.. She got to me and I said a 748 she replied your joking surely.. No! Two days later I owned my first 748.. Every time I looked at her I just couldn't help but grin such was the pleasure it brought.. Seemed to work on car drivers too, lots of thumbs up as I sat in traffic etc.. A few wound their windows down though pointing at her and saying there's something wrong with your bike mTe!

Why did Ducati use dry clutches? Id really like to be told what the reason was.. Cooling perhaps? Luv to know for sure..

I believe for racing....dry clutch packs are easier and faster to swap out...
