Coolest Ducati Series ... And Why?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Dave, Jun 23, 2016.

  1. I read the question as superbike so 851/888 gets my vote. Had a 888 in 02 but wouldnt want another one. Most uncomfortable bike Ive owned.

  2. I wouldn't say so....Phil748 has said he didn't think his was....I would say both my rsv4 and z1ooo are not cool bikes....nice looking but not cool...

  3. That'd be an idea....a cool wall...put it up - wait for a vote...although I'm not sure how it would work...

  4. You'd kind of hope so otherwise sell what you have and buy the cooler one. I'm not sure many buy Ducatis other than because they think they're cooler than other brands.

As an 851 owner I think they're pretty cool.....but I'd say the coolest is the white frame 900SS for me. All the Ducati trademarks without anything unnecessary (like a radiator!!) and look the business IMHO, unlike the "over-styled" 916, SSie etc. ranges that followed. I'm also going to guess that most will say that the coolest were the models around when they first became interested in bikes.

    I'm surprised the 70's 900SS hasn't been mentioned yet.

  5. the very first 'R' they made i recon is the very beautiful bike, and isnt it the only bike to make it to gugenheim museum? maybe i am mistaken thou...
996R is the coolest looking motorcycle by far. not super quick by todays standards but who cares?

  6. Quite right ...

749/999 - definitely "cool" on the cool wall. The thinking man's Ducati. Riding a 749/999 says "I don't blindly follow fashion" and "I don't care that this bike was slated when it came out". That's pretty damn cool.

Scrambler - the absolute opposite. A factory-manufactured attempt at the retro-cool thing. If you ride one of these you look like you are trying to be cool. Definitely un-cool.

Sport Classic - sadly the same as the Scrambler but just a few years older. Way less cool than an original bevel classic.

Hyper - totally un-cool in the way that a chav is a pale imitation of a hooligan. A real hooligan would ride a real motard instead of some factory imitation.

748/916/996/998 - so famously fantastic in every way that it is actually a bit predictable and hence not as cool as a 749/999. Getting cooler as it gets older, but not yet super-cool.

848/1098 - just about "cool" if only as a reaction to the hugely uncool modern Panigale series.

Other cool stuff ... early Monsters, first series Multistradas. TT and F1 Series.

Other uncool stuff ... all Multistradas apart from the first series. All Diavels.

Stuff I'm not sure about ... SS, Streetfighter .... ??

    Is there anything I've forgotten?

  8. but there is "cool" in the biking world and "cool" in the parked up outside Costa world. The SC is cool outside Costa, that's the one the hipsters would like.

  9. Thanks for saving me the trouble of finding a picture of my favourite model.

  11. in what way mate? (apart from being owned by them of course)

imho theyre the sexiest looking bikes Ducati have ever made to date (including the afore mentioned 748 and 996 which are my fave of the older models) but maybe theyre not cool yet because theyre not old enough?

guess we'll see how they last the test of time

  12. No, 996R's and 998R's dropped way lower than the 999R ever did ;)

  13. And then Hell T bought one :Nailbiting:

  15. I think they are so 'polished' with every panel gap lined up and the whole bike is very 'finished' which shows a heap of the VW influence, and is what makes it the best of the lot IMHO.

But yes more importantly they aren't rare or old enough to be 'cool'. And I think that's when stuff like the 'R' series become cool.

Please don't think I'm knocking the panigale, but the old bikes had a race bike feel to them, so uncompromising, a little fragile and always rare. So people weren't used to them.

Or, should I just say any bike before PCP was invented!

  19. ok,, that is cool.............

  20. With Keira Knightley pouting - she made the whole brand uncool...a very vacuous individual indeed....

Still disagree on my hyper dave....Ducati upped the ante with the hyper....ive got a525 supermoto and its not a patch on the hyper...in fact I built the 525 as at the time I wasn't allowed to get another one...got the hyper....525 is up for sale if anyone wants it...just to add ive also had the 660 ktm supermoto still not as good as the hyper...if anything ducati stepped up the hooligan with the hyper...

Theres nothing else that looks like it....radical...that's ducati right there...
