As title I have had my 899 for nearly two years now and fancy a change . The 899 has been a great bike and was my first bike since passing in March 14 but I have seen a 1199s for sale I like 14 plate one owner 2000 miles £1499.now my dilemma is am I better getting a brand new 1299 ? I haven't as yet ridden a 1299 but felt the 1199 I test rode was a little to mad at the time but I now feel like having the extra power there. I know it's not a Ducati but what about the new s1kr ? Anyone had any experience of these. What should I be looking for mine dec,64 white termis extra year warranty 4100 miles Cheers Lee
These situations are hard as if you go for the 1199 which is plenty enough of bike will you always be thinking 'i wish i had gone for the 1299'. More than likely. The BMW is apparently made to go so fast so you can't see how ugly it is. Or so i am told.
you should be able to get a low mileage 1299 for that price if you can find one.i went from the 899 to the 1299.i found it takes a bit of time to get used to the 1299 because the 899 is a lot lighter and you can get a lot of its performance out of it. with the 1299 because its so quick its harder to ride.dont get me wrong I love it but it is a jump as is the 1199.the 1299 is torquey and conrollable low down in the revs and does not stop. was told the 1199 is better to ride higher in the revs to get the most out of it. upto you they are both works of art.
I honestly think that moving from the 899 I would only go to a 1299, that way u tick all the boxes. A standard 1299 still wins over a 1199s also for me Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I did it and I'm staying with it . the 1299 as we all have said has loads of character and you wont fall a sleep on it like the the perfectly smooth jap bikes.
1299 all day. Did 75 miles on an S1k for a video comparing to my 1299 and the 1299 changes direction much much easier I found. I'll try my hardest to get it up on my YouTube channel over weekend [emoji1]
1299 big step on from 1199 acording to everything Ive read. Easier to ride, a lot of niggles solved like mid range and chassis developed from wsbk knowledge.
I contemplated the s1k before buying the 1299, early days but I'm pleased with my choice. At the risk of sounding obvious, test ride the BM before you spend time considering it. Negatives. I found the gearbox agricultural, the downshift worked only with a firm smack and my hands were literally numb with vibration through the bars. Additionally to have fun I found myself riding at licence loosing speeds. The looks are controversial, but personally I like them , particularly in black ( I love the 2012 motorsport colours but but don't get on with the 2015, especially the tinny looking kitchen foil finished swingarm). The finish is less than perfect , particularly welding on the swingarm & exhaust. Positives. The suspension was a peach in the real world & although not a deal clincher I found the cruise control & heated grips a useful bonus ( I ride all year ). I've heard the aftersales are spot on & you can extend the warranty unlike the panigale ( even aftermarket providers have pulled the plug on panis ). The stock exhaust is big & ugly enough to made a 959 designer cringe but sounds awesome for a stock pipe, especially the farting and banging. 1199s or 1299? New 1299 for me, easier to ride, better fuelling , blipper both ways , cornering ABS & a 2 year warranty which you may find useful. I've done 2k miles on mine in approx a month & had both the fan & petrol cap seal replaced. 1299 over 899? ( I did 12k miles on a 899) Better fuelling ( just my experience), much better suspension ( particularly the rear) , blipper up & down, colour dash ( lean angles in Race) , better brakes. So far I've found the supercorsas have worn much more evenly than the RC on the 899 ( which brings me onto greater 1299 tyre choice). All this is my experience/ opinion of the bikes, not what I've read, however if you go on say the s1k forum you are likely to get polar opposite opinions. Ride them all and see what works for you. Good luck mate.
