  1. I'd love to know the value of it broken but not got a clue. They're £7,500 ish when working so I figured knock of a couple of K but no idea how to get a value.

  2. Half an hour on ebay and a spreadsheet or pen/paper. Bodywork, wheels, swingarm, ecu and lockset, frame, forks etc etc plus things like loom, they can go for good money. Just means you have to be patient

  3. True, I'd rather sell it whole though as I want my next bike. I don't have a second bike.

  4. image.jpg See you on the other side JH.
    I can't take any more,
Chopped my DVT in today, I'm done with new models. Hoping this 3 year old design will be less trouble.

  5. Drool! I saw one of those in P&H in Crawley. Limited edition or something isn't it? Looked damn tasty. KTM have always been good to me. Servicing costs are half of Ducati's and they don;t break anywhere near as much. Makes you wonder why we ever bothered with Ducati in the first place.

  6. I'm also jumping to something else, I pick this up asap when I have removed some goodies from the Multi....

  7. Mmmm...those MT10s are bloody tempting at that price aren't they? You could fit full Ohlins all round and still save THOUSANDS on a Multi!

  8. Too ugly to own for me.

  9. Sorry, KTM do nothing for me at all, I respect them but can't see one in my garage. As it happens I'm not the biggest fan of the MT's looks but it's such a hoot to ride I can forgive it's 'unusual' face, I don't think it's ugly though, just different.

  10. Just to add the fast bikes dyno run of the Mt wasn't much to write home about... They didn't look too impressed even on the vid...

  11. First time I rode one was yesterday. Very easy to ride and seat more comfortable than the Multi. Certainly no beast but still an exciting ride, who doesn't like 4th gear wheelies. :)
Ok it's not a mile munching machine, but I don't ride two up very often, and I'm sure this will be ok to ride all day. I'll find out in two weeks as off to Germany for a week.
If I hadn't had so may problems with my DVT I wouldn't of got rid. I'm not in the habit of losing a shit load of money in 12 months.
My last 12 months with Ducati have been very dissapointing. My dealer has been great but having probably been there 30 odd times in the last 12 months, I've seen a lot of bikes with problems and don't believe the brand to be reliable on the whole. The first 5 Enduro's my dealer sold, 4 were recovered! I'm done.

  12. I think KTM do "angular" well, Yamaha don't (this is down to personal aesthetics though) KTM's design ethos is IMO, angular, yet flowing...yamaha's is just angular, but just for the sake of it...

Same with Kawasaki.....angular but softer angles than ktm...which is what ive got (2014 z1ooo). Once modded (stupid stock pipes removed etc etc) even after 18months on id still say the big zed is the best looking naked at the moment and now mines been on the dyno and had all the pesky ecu restrictions removed doesn't make that much less (and id almost say) the same power as the MT.

  13. I've done 4600 miles on mine since March.. Just can't keep off it. I've done many 8 hour days in the saddle without discomfort. I did a 430 mile day a couple of weeks ago, most of it in torrential rain. I'd have no hesitation in riding it across Europe. OK you couldn't stick it on an Autobahn at 140 mph for long but who wants to do that anyway?
The SDR actually has less wind blast than the Streetfighter, which is well known as a miraculously calm ride for a naked. Well, it maybe doesn't have less wind blast but on the SF you feel it more at higher speeds because of the riding position. The bars being much lower on the SF your neck is cricked back slightly to start with and at high speed you really feel the weight on your head. On the more relaxed riding position of the SDR you can sustain higher speed without strain. 100mph+ cruising for long periods is perfectly comfortable.

If you have an SDR you MUST bin the standard exhaust and uncork it with the full Akra Evo system and the remap. Its a lot of money but it transforms the bike utterly. It has stacks more bottom end and a significantly more aggressive throttle action. It feels like its the bike KTM meant it to be before the Euro Gestapo strangled it. Several people on the Supertwins forum have posted dyno printouts after fitting the Evo showing 170-175 bhp and 105 lb/ft of torque at the back wheel which backs up KTM's claim of 12 bhp and 5 lb/ft increase. It makes a change to see manufacturers claims matched by the reality.... Mentioning no names..:Angelic:

  14. This is the thing for me Gimlet....I love big supernaked's the sdr is the pinnacle - I do agree but for the money its too much - in new form way too much, in second hand form, more affordable if I could find one that's got the full system on it with the up map....but, and its a biggie....id have to sacrifice both my hypermotard and the zed for one ( I expect the wife would be happy as there would be less in the garage ) but its too much of a trade off...id loose the hyper which id campaigned hard to get with the management/wife and also the z which I love (out of the 3 bikes its the best all rounder of the lot) - it touches 160 with a bit more to go, handles, accelerates as quick as an r1m (yep - it does, really) and is as comfortable as an armchair....id possibly loose the zed only but theres no way I could do that and stay married..! :)

  15. or maybe a comfy sofa?

  16. Only if I owned a gold-wing....and if I ever did - someone kill me and make it quick!

  17. I only bought an SDR because I spotted one discounted to 12 grand. That's more like it. Its on a par with the Tuono Factory and the S1000R Sport and for that money it was a bloody good buy. It paid for the Akra system.
But if the 1290 SDR is pricey what does that make the Monster 1200 R? That's £1250 dearer than the KTM.
Across that board KTMs are cheaper than equivalent Ducatis.

  18. Just a thought, what would be the fault if the last valve adjustment had been missed? Could this be the knocking I am getting, it started out as a regular tick when cold. They replaced the heads and coolant and told me they'd done the big service at the same time, yet i'm wondering wether or not they actually did and that could be the cause of my problem.

Would they even be able to replace the heads and NOT do the valve adjustment?

Obviously I should hear back soon but I think they'll give me any old cobblers for whatever the problem is, as it gets them out of repairing it.

  19. I don't think they could or would replace heads without checking valves.

  20. JH, if they replaced the heads they would have probably been bare, so needed assembling, and therefore clearances set.

I broke a ring on my 2010 bike, which p&h repaired back in 2012/3 (all details are on here somewhere)
They replaced the head, barrel and piston. I sold the bike a while later and it was going great.

New owner then has major engine noise 3 or 4 months later that turns out to be the mains gone. Although p&h won't admit or agree, other dealers I have spoken to say the shells should have been replaced, as squashing a bit of ring between the piston and head was bound to have damaged them. Unfortunately they will only do the work that ducati will authorise them to do.

It is possible your suffering the consequences of a similar short sighted repair.

Oh, they do have a bunch of techs, but they are trained for different brands. The main ducatI tech also supports their racing team. I too have had to wait for him to be available before now.

Good luck with the ktm, I hope it turns out to be all you expect. Unfortunately I know as many people that have had problems with them as ducatis.
