848 Swapping Out For An 899

  1. The 848 evo is a fantastic little mini superbike but good god its to small and uncomfortable for me to enjoy on anything other than a 60 mile round trip ( I am fat and unfit also ) . To be honest you need to cover at least 30 miles from my house to even get to any decent roads .
I am thinking the 899 is slightly bigger and comfier ? Any one had a go or swapped ?
I am sure I will like an 899 when my 848 evo is actually sold but I cant help thinking there going to loose some money over the next 2 years due to there newness and price at the moment, I am also thinking the 848 evo sat in the garage for another 2 years is not going to depreciate by much at all.

  2. i'm 5'9 and 16 stone and the 848 was perfect for me. the 899 felt tiny in comparison. almost like sitting on a cbr125

  3. That's odd but interesting , I am not as heavy as you but around the same height, my 848 feels tiny at the front end, very low, I have not sat on an 899 yet or even seen one in the flesh but they look bigger in the pics lol. Guess I need to sit on one.

  4. i think the whole panigale range is very narrow. whilst riding it almost feels like my knees are touching. awesome bike though. plenty of trick stuff but ended up with a hypermotard 939sp. not as fast outright, but i can carry more corner speed on that than i could on my 848 without putting effort in. i live on the norfolk/suffolk border and spend most of my time riding on the backroads etc so a superbike is wasted on me.

  5. Just changed from 848 to 899 and can confirm the 899 is a smaller bike and quite a bit different. Spent about 5hrs on it this weekend and it probably the easiest bike I have ever ridden to go fast on. Don't get me wrong the 848 is a lovely bike but you are getting all the bells and whistless with the 899.

  6. I had an 848 and now have a 899. Honestly I loved the 'grunt' of the 848, especially with a 14t sprocket. The 899 is a much more rev happy engine.

I find the 899 so much easier to ride, it steers super quick (and light) and is easier on the reach from seat to handle bars. And much less heat issues!

The 848 honestly would be my pick for the track where u can explore the ridiculous stability and ferocious brake power, but for road it's 899 by quite a long way actually!

You can even do more than 100 miles before u have to throw fuel in it!!!

  7. From the quotes above it sounds like the 899 is more like a Japanese bike to ride, easy and without character but very capable ? Did you mention the stability and holy crap where's my face gone brakes on the evo :)

I am thinking the small amount i actually use the bike maybe the 848 evo in the garage will be more of an occasion to ride now and again.
I need to have a big think on this one and get myself over to somewhere to at least have a poke around and sit on one before i sell my 848.
