  1. Sounds like he's angling for a get out clause...

  2. Yeah. My argument woukd be that by ONLY rebuilding the top end, they missed the bottom end damage. They did half a job and so if Ducati pay for the parts, they should pay for at least half the labour. I think that would be a good compromise. If they won't buy that, I'd pursue the "fit for purpose" path.

  3. I have a chance to go at the finance company and say that the bike THEY own and I am paying for, is not of satisfactory quality. There is a procedure for this but not one I've ever done before. That's my first port of call tomorrow. I'm guessing they have some form of insurance for this.

  4. The exhaust flapper/butterfly valve is kind of stupid and the mechanism to operate it is worse. After a year of mixed weather riding the valve and mechanism had corroded and the valve froze in open position. At 7500 mile service they had to remove and clean it up plus the exhaust clamp bolt was so corroded they could not remove it and had to cut the band to get muffler off to install new tires. This is a 2014 multistrada, didn't read anything about spraying the valve linkage with penetrating oil/solvent after wet rides to keep the linkage clean. Wonder how they could spin the valve being bypassed into causing bearing failure?

  5. They said my exhaust valve had seized and did I know there was a cheat device on it. No shit Sherlock!

  6. Second major repair on same motor, I say new motor on them and you only pay for labor.

  7. You could try giving the CAB consumer advice line a ring: 03454 04 05 06
They're completely clued up and they'll be able to tell you where you stand and what your options are. I've consulted them a couple of times and they were very helpful and if you have a case to pursue they'll allot you a case number and keep advising you throughout the process.

  8. +1 on the CAB route.

  9. I'll be making lots of phone calls tomorrow. Do they just expect these multi's to be worth fuck all outside of their warranty? It had 7000 miles on with its first engine rebuild. It had 19,000 miles on when the rad had to be replaced and now at 21,000 the engine has gone again. It's just astounding! I'm not touching Ducati again, not for the rest of my life!

  10. JH, this is exactly what I described above.

The guy who bought my bike got parts paid for, but had to cover the labour himself. Personally I would have argued about that.
Send me a PM if you want mine and his names as a point of reference. This proves it's not the first time, and at the same dealer too. Whether that will help you or not I don't know.

Other dealers told me they would have pushed to change the shells.
Good luck mate, i hope you get it sorted without having to pay a stupid amount.

  11. Finance company now investigating. They payout if one of three things are found.

    1. The problem was developing when the vehicle was sold.
    2. The fault is a manufacturing defect
    3. The problem occurred too soon into ownership to be considered reasonable.

They will not take external testimonials from a third party. They instead speak to the manufacturer and ask them about the problem.

    We'll see what happens.

  12. Fingers crossed for you JH.

  13. Have you taken independent legal/consumer advice as well? Makes sure you know your rights and how to enforce them. Dealers, manufacturers and finance companies will all try to steer you towards outcomes that suit their vested interests, not yours.

  14. I am. The dealer already started trying to say that I did the last oil change and that oil can affect the bearings. I argued that actually, Ducati give a range of oils dependant upon ambient temperature, and that my (really expensive, fully synthetic 15w-40 or 15w-50) oil was within spec for our climate down here.

He told me that only fully synthetic 10w-40 was allowed. He also told me my chain needed replacing as it was worn. It's about 4000 miles old and I replaced t myself. Because they remember it needed doing last time they saw it, they assume it still needs doing. It's like they didn't even bother to check and just started listing bits wrong in an effort to show its a poorly looked after bike. Even mentioned the rear brake was spongy [emoji23]

  15. Hahaha! They're kidding right?

When mine was in for service I wanted them to do a complete flush and bleed front and rear because it takes a second pump on the foot pedal to get any feel. They did none of that, stating they checked it out and found nothing wrong and rear brake worked fine. I checked the brake pedal throw before asking them and it went down and when I stroked it again it was an inch higher than the first stroke. I hate taking bikes to the dealer for service, if I end up keeping this bike I'll have to learn how to do the desmo valves.

  16. Number 3 is a shoo-in, no? 21K is NOT acceptable mileage for a double engine failure!

  17. That's my thinking. Not to mention the replacement rad and clock mileage resetting. Wish i'd never mentioned the mileage resetting as that would mean it's all happened with only 14,000 miles on the clock ;)

  18. If they don't co-operate, don't forget to name and shame this dealer. They sound sketchy to say the least.

  19. No problem... P&H motorcycles in Crawley. They sorted everything that happened within the warranty period, but i'd have expected a bit of help outside of warranty, what with the history. I'm certainly never going back there as i've lost all trust in them.

  20. There y'go. They'll now pay the price for their lack of service & support by having everyone on this forum avoid them like the plague!
