Had a look around at whether an hpi check would show up a cat c or d vehicle, but most vehicle check sites seem to say only "...total write off..." Which to me intimates cat a. anybody know if a hpi check would flag a cat c or d vehicle? cheers, pete
the cat c/d thing has just happened to me , i looked into changing the bike through a dealer (my 848) only for them to ring me the following morning and tell me its a cat c??? ......although its been repaired it wasnt showing on the v5 but it hangs on the hpi check!!!!! and stumped me selling it on ....there was absolutely nothing wrong with the bike to indicate this and the previous owner new nothing about it either .......however people get jumpy because you just dont know the history and through a dealer you either lose shitloads of money or worse they just wont touch it ................ i have managed to swap the bike (07 r1) but only because the r1 was in the same boat (although cat D ) ....cat d is just superficial damage that the insurance twats wont/cant touch ......ive still taken a hit but all round a better situ for me BOTTOM LINE ..............is that cat C/D is just a stigma attached to the bike forever regardless of wether it was repaired or not ...ringing around dealers ..its like the bikes got ebola or aids , to be honest its like new ,low miles , and standard ............pissing me right off ...DONT BE SCARED OF CAT C OR D !!!!!! my 848 was cat c , i would of challenged anyone to refute that she was anything but imaculate ...likewise the R1
Hi Duke, agree about the fact that a 2nd hand vehicle that has had a decent job done post-prang, then it is as good as a non-pranged version. But, try telling that to the very nice insurance underwriters - I believe that a few insurers will not touch c or d vehicles, regardless. I only know because a good friend fixes up cat d cars, uses for a while, then sells on for a few extra beer vouchers (he does actually put all the pre-fix and fix up photos with the vehicle).
There are far too many bikes around to even contemplate buying a cat C or D, too many aren't repaired well enough and are bought by people to save money, the price difference altho there for me isn't big enough to make one viable.
My GT was a cat C, could have kept looking but given how rare they are, and the fact that a 3ooomile Gt was over 5k IF one was available, I felt it was worth a go. It was dropped on a greasy roundabout Im told. Mine has NO evidence of damaga other than a small mark on the tank, the silencer was over £1000 so that added to the bill so I guess its easy for the repair to get pricey enough for the bike to be uneconomical.
i had a bike written off cat c and all that hapened was that it was knocked off its side stand while parked the cost of a new tank, 2 new silencers, clutch cover, bars and levers + labour was more than the value of the bike, dont know why they went cat c rather than d , but bike was easy to fix and rides fine i would be very hapy buying cat c or d if i could verify what work was done
If its a Cat C, I think it is on the front page of the V5 (Although this is I guess if the bike had to have a VIC check)
Thanks Pixie1276, Just had a look, very strong money don't you think... insurance write-offs, should be valued @ close to 50% of a straight bike?
It's a Cat D which isn't a write off its superficial damage which in this instance is completely repaired......
It's still classed as a insurance write-off, it's highlighted on a hpi check, which would give you a value lower the an non damaged insurance paid out bike....
If that raises concern for people then they shouldn't look at purchasing bikes that have been declared cat c or d...the price reflects the bike in its entirety its immaculate just unfortunately in its history it has had fairing damage.....it's people's choice at the end of the day should they wish to purchase a bike which is openly stated that is a cat d and either buy it now or make a reasonable offer of the price.
I hope you don't actually believe that? Of course it's a write off . a cat d would be worth roughly 40 % less than a straight one. Cat c 50% isis hand obviously a cat b and a cannot be purchased unless your a breaker
Ermmm that isn't should be an is actually but that's predictive iPhone texts for you....! Anyway like I said people know what they are buying so if they want it they will buy it
