I had a quick chat with my dealer today. The information he has, is that the worldwide allocation was sold out within 48 hours. For the UK there will be 35 bikes for 36 dealers. Best of luck everyone . If I can't get one, I'll wait for the Desmo.
dealer i spoke to in US was confident he can get me one if i want. but ive decided that i will only buy one if my local UK dealer will get me one. if not than i will have to leave it
All a bit strange this, why would dealers take multiple deposits when there only getting one bike per dealer. Presumably not all dealers will sell one, but all seems a bit odd to me. My dealer alone I believe has taken 3 or 4 deposits, and no doubt many other dealers have as well, not the best way to do business. I have put a deposit down and will be a bit disappointed if I do not get one, but some people maybe extremely annoyed. I now its refundable but not really a good way going about business, that's providing its all true of course. Its probably all a very good way of using up parts that will be no longer be of any use come 2017 with the new regulations etc.
I imagine 1 of 2 scenarios for the people who don't get one. Would you like a 'normal' S with some free akros instead? Or If all the UK and rest of world allocation is outstripped by deposits Ducati might simply build more that aren't numbered. Sent from my LG-D855 using Tapatalk
Basically the bike was released Saturday afternoon in Italy, dealers arrived Monday morning to a barrage of emails and phone calls and had no idea of the ordering system of this bike and ordered as normal until it became clear of the allocation ect on Tuesday.
I'm not sure what's going on. I can only assume that they were taken by surprise with the amount of interest in the bike. If I don't get one I will be a little disappointed and I don't like the fish market approach to selling it but life goes on. Maybe they will build more. If orders are so great, it might be an option.
Don't think the 1299 will be discontinued. But i suspect it may become more road and less race focused.
