Has anyone removed a rear wheel on a 1200? Just wondering if it's do-able at home with a long enough breaker bar.
I've tried it a couple of times with my Pani, which is the same deal, try as I migh I couldn't shift it. I used a bloody great big torque wrench to no avail. Apparently you need a massive scaffold pole... Or an air gun. I took it to the tyre shop and they said no chance without a compressed air gun.
Yeah, that was my thinking. Let someone else have the fun. I can't understand why it's so bloody tight!
I've never tried but was thinking about it. The torque setting for the multistrada is 230Nm. I haven't seen a monster maintenance manual but I'm guessing it must be about the same. Doesn't that mean that if you have, say, a 500mm socket bar that you'd need to apply 46kg to be at 230Nm? That sounds do-able. Or have I hopelessly misunderstood? I guess on such a large diameter thread that stiction may be pretty large.
I have no idea how you worked that out but it's impressive. I'm not doubting your maths in any way. All I can tell you is 12 1/2 to 13 stone of vertically applied pressure to a 55mm socket attached to a 1m torque wrench = bust balls. 1 55mm nut. It should be so easy. That'll be why it's tight though, it's only one nut holding the wheel on.
Mains electric rattle gun (£65 @ Machine Mart) and a Speedymoto socket that is impact safe. Easy ever after. Only ever use the rattle gun to undo, always do up with a torque wrench.
I think I'll save myself the hernia and let the tyre place do it. It's not like it's a complicated disassembly. Also, I don't own a paddock stand. Thanks for all the replies folks.
