Ducati Panigale Track Noise Levels Thread

  1. Jesus that's a cluster f*ck :(

  2. I'll see you all tomorrow at Donningtons 108dB day then!

  3. It is annoying, however the MSV website does state only standard exhausts will get a free pass on the static test. Seems that some are just more pragmatic about it...

  4. I seem to remember seeing a letter somewhere on here, from MSV (possibly) regarding noise testing, to all it's circuits. Regarding what they should look for when doing Pani's! Can't find it. Hope I'm not imagining it. Is it here?
    Ta.

  5. I tested 103db at Cadwell with Termi Baffles, was bloody hard to keep it at 5500rpm though! Didn't trip the meter but there was a guy out with a 1199 with no baffles who did trip the ride by (it was a 105db day)

  6. I didn't have any problems with tripping driveby meters with my unbaffled Termis at Cadwell. I was going 'easy' shall we say with the revs in the static test to make sure I got out. It's a bit worrying people have been picked as I know they have had some local noise complaints lately so maybe cracking down a bit?

There has been some clarification that they will give Panigales some slack on the static test but experience shows that it still depends on the circuits and where the driveby sensors are.

  7. My post on the previous page. It is in the Noise testing section of MSV's website. States that Panigales with standard exhausts will be given leniency on the static test, but will be black flagged if they trigger the drive by level.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  8. Exact wording is "Ducati Panigale fitted with the 'plain standard exhaust only' will be permitted leniency on the static test. Drive-by limits are still strictly enforced."

  9. 899 at Oulton 2 weeks ago. Fitted with Termi end cans.
106 dB. With baffles in it blew 103.0 then 103.3
So failed. No drive by test either.

  10. Thats not a good sign :( Did you mention it was a Panigale and the driveby test, etc?

  11. To be fair to MSV, the exception is only for standard exhausts. However, the inconsistency between MSV tracks is annoying. It would make sense for them to let anything out as long as it does not trigger the drive by level for that day. That is after all the important number for noise escaping the track...

  12. Yes true, but imo it's a arbitrary decision that's been made as the Termis are provided as stock and no louder anyhow (sexier though :) ) It's different with stuff like mega loud Austin Racing, etc.

  13. I agree that there shouldn't really be a distinction between OE and after market. If the drive by is the important measure, that is what should be measured. However, from what I saw of the testing at Bedford I will have to disagree that Termis are no louder... The 899s with Termis and baffles were giving around 104-106dB, but standard bikes down at 103dB. With baffles out, a few of the guys told be they have seen 108dB+. So definitely louder.

  14. I've only ever done static tests and read 102...looking at doing donny on tuesday and says 108db drive by, will i be ok?

  15. Donny noisy days they don't even bother static testing.... Well, they didn't 2 weeks ago on a noisy day.

    • Agree Agree x 1
  16. 899 standard cans standard with very warm engine 107 failed static, tried again tipping over to the right and failed again at about 104. Pleaded with course Marshall who allowed me to do ride by and no issues over two days at reasonable pace.

Cadwell last year no issues at all on 105 day!

Donny and Silverstone no issues on Ducati days!

Rockingham in a week so hopefully will pass there

  17. What track was the 107 / 104 readings @dukeman358 ?

  18. No drive by was allowed on the 899 at Oulton.

  19. But oulton is MSV and they state it as their procedure for Panigales with standard exhausts....
What noise level was the day?

  20. Re #29 - An 899 with Termi end cans. They are NOT standard exhausts. Standard by definition is how the 899 left the factory. Termi exhausts are an option you can purchase if you want. Other exhausts are of course, available
