Haha, no worries. That iPhone text is a dangerous thing. Made many mistake myself. Totally agree regarding that some people will buy it, and some people won't. I'd happily buy a written off car , but unsure about a bike unless I knew the history. This is assuming that the price is right too. No idea if you realised though but you can buy a straight R1 on a newer plate, with less miles and from dealer than you have listed the cat d one for. Used YAMAHA YZF Bike - Bike Trader
My GT is a cat c, no mention on the logbook though. I guess we are now as the yanks are, seeking vehicles with a 'clear title'. Any insurance repairs are now logged btw, Cat D-superfiscial damage, stolen and recovered comes under D Cat C- Uneconomical repair, normally the labour is enough to knock this over the top Cat B- major structure, I believe these CANNOT be re-registered Cat A- Normally, Fire damage or an accident in which someone has been killed, these must be destroyed. This info is logged in a misty mind so is likely to be garbage.
Ok, gonna wade into this one Am selling my Cat C 1200s Multistrada on e-bay right now (and its in the classifieds if anyone wants to make me an offer!!) The log book has no mention of being a cat c. The HPI check obviously does. I have bought several cat c bikes with the intention of always bringing them back to life and keeping them. I may be different because I buy them as damaged, ie, not already repaired. Unfortunately, my bike being my only asset, I always have to sell to pay the bills. But then I scour the adds and start all over, hoping my fortunes change and I can keep the next one! Check out my bike for sale in the forum classified. I defy anyone to buy a better more sorted Multi than that one, yet it is a cat C. My point is, I want a lovely new bike, but in no way on Gods earth do I have the means and circumstances to go out and buy one. But I can buy a cat c or d and end up with my dream bike. So for many people with limited funds, do they have their dream bike, or do they not. Its a simple equation. As long as you do your homework and understand that a cat c is never going to retail at nowhere near the price of a standard bike, and you have purchased at a good price initially you can have your dream bike. We are only talking about a limited number of buyers and sellers here, and forget about selling to dealers. But that's not the market. If you can afford a standard bike buy it, why are you even considering a cat c or d. The market is for that guy who has a limited amount of money but really wants the bike that is just out of his reach. He is not interested in warranties or guarantees or even service books. He only has x amount of money, and no more. I guess the problem is that he must do his homework and know what he is looking at. My bike is 100% straight, I have photos and receipts even down to the ball bearing in the foot peg! And remember the original smashed bike will usually have been repaired with good quality parts, carbon fibre, plating, new decent fluids, not crappy service items. Parts that you would struggle to afford if you paid out for a newish standard bike then again for all the bits that make our machines unique to us on top of that. For instance if I can sell mine quickly (offers invited ) there is a new front end smashed Triumph explorer on e bay for around £4500. Thats a £12K bike at the very least. I cant afford a £12k bike but if I sell I can buy a £4.5k bike. Stick it the garage, each month over winter buy a bit, and by next spring that bike will be amazing. Nothing wrong with a cat c.
That's what I was getting @, R1 looks decent, but is up for very strong money, being an insurance write-off... I could be interested, but not @ that money..
