I get really freaked out when I see riders not wearing helmets while on the road. And riding at high speed on twisty roads or in busy streets is even worse. With all the respect for those against wearing a helmet, here's one nice Ducati crash. Look at the pictures at the end of the movie to see the helmet damage, now watch the movie once more and tell everyone the helmet was futile. It doesn't seem to cut it, does it? As the rider himself stresses, even experienced riders will one day see themselves in critical, dramatic situations, even if it not their fault getting them in such a predicament. In this case we might blame it on the alleged 30 mph (48 km/h) blowing through the canyon. Or whatever. This guy would have certainly been dead without a helmet. He says it himself, the movie shows he didn't exaggerate and statistics prove unhelmeted riders tend to die more than helmeted ones because of crashes. Just wear the helmet, please. that's true ... i always wear my gear , no matter if hot summer i always have my jacket , boots and gloves on ...( melting , but better than leaving the skin on the tarmac )
I think he just panicked, stiff-armed it and went off the road? Seemed to be on a straight bit of road too? Should have gone for the Hypermotard & racing wets.
He runs off the road where it is still dead straight. Bizarre. A 30 mph wind isn't much. Crikey, if I left the road every time I hit a 30 mph wind, I'd be dead by now. The other weird thing is that if you get blown off the road, you know you have been, there's no "I must have been blown off the road" about it. Still, hard to see what else would explain it unless he wasn't looking where he was going. As for safety equipment - he's still wearing jeans. Don't understand why you'd go out for a scoot and only half get dressed.
I've had a few more looks at this video and it is clear that the only reason for him crashing was total rider incompetence. Look at his lines in the corners. The last one he gets totally wrong and because he's bolloxed it up, crashes. It's barely what qualifies as a corner around here. Wind? Yeah, up his bum. This qualifies as a "canyon"? Strange people, our transatlantic cousins. Mind you, if he's that useless, he really does want to be wearing full leathers.
I think I would have been too embarrassed to broadcast it on u-tube, guess if you don't look where your going you go somewhere else...
I have watched the video a few times now, can't work out the reason for the crash at all! It looks like he rides off the road deliberately. Wasn't even going that fast. I looked to see if he had maybe panicked because of the imminent corner, but don't see any sign of a brake light flashing. Momentary taking his attention off the road admiring the view possibly?
His line is wrong. Starts off near the centre and drifts out off the road. If he'd had the correct line, starting on the outside and aiming towards the apex, it would never have happened. He's not going that fast, but clearly his ambition outweighed his ability.
I reckon he was looking around or had another similar lack of concentration for a second - then slows too much and the bike starts to stand up cos of this - then he whitelined it on the road edge marking - Squirmy back end -- cacked himself and then slammed on the brakes - now it's all about trying to stop in time - but the bike has stood up and is going straight cos of the panic braking... I've had these momentary lapses once or twice myself - the most scary was a few years ago going through a welsh valley and I was admiring the view - then much to my surprise the fence and a 300 ft drop was right in front of me - thankfully years of motocross riding helped me to brake, kick down and correct before I went flying over the edge - - learnt a good lesson that day...
Is it me, but if you look at the front tyre at about 3.24 there appears to be about an inch and a half of chicken strip, (god knows what the back one looks like?). I think it's a case of all the gear no idea, again. Justifies his crash by having all the correct clobber etc. "Wasn't my fault" Pillock, learn to ride.
And in his video he claims to have been riding Ducati motorcycles for several years without incident (suggesting he's ridden other bikes too over a longer period of time). He's hardly competent from what I saw. However......... there by the grace of God and all that shite
