So which race style gloves and lid? ive had a shoei in the past but fancy and arai rx7 and i need some new gloves but im not up to speed with the brands what about held or dainese or alpinestars? i had some spidis in the past which were fine
I've recently been looking for gloves and seen Held gloves come up time and time again with good reviews from people who had actually bought them , not just magazines.
I like the look of these, I'll see if I can view them in the flesh before buying a pair. I've got a pair of Doohan replica Nankai Kangaroo leather gloves, old, battered and not used for a while now, but still the most comfortble glove I've had.
Those handroid look odd but agree that the helds seem to get good user reports Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk
I agree that the look of the Handroids are marmite BUT they simply are the best and most comfortable gloves out there at the moment, in my opinion.
I'm going to try a set of those Handroids next time. I have several sets of Alpinestar GP Pro which have been very good and everything Alpinestar seems to fit me well. I had some Racer GP gloves before this which were more comfortable but mainly because of slightly less protection. I'd definitely recommend those for road riding. Helmets are very specific to your head. Shoe NXR are the only helmet I've found that fit my bonce without any pressure spots. Arai RX7 are a completely different shape. Anyone out there gone from one to the other?
It's tricky right getting the rig gear. Shops tend to be dwindling in number and some of the stuff you really need to try on first. They say the arai suits an oval head but looking at their website it seems that's less the case now with their various pad combinations etc I do have a small head and am not built like a burly company director type so don't know if the arais which almost seem more ball like externally will make me look a little silly. The shoei xr1000 I had did actually look quite neat given its narrower shell
I don't know whether thats impressive or scary or both! Some classic reps there. Which ones the most coveted?
Back on track Whic brands of gloves consistently manufacture outside of east Asia and asia? Are any made in Europe or the states?
Gloves +1 for the Knox Handroid for summer. I also have Held Warm 'n Dry for winter and they are absolutely excellent. When they need replacing it will definitely be with another pair of Held's (the Warm 'n Dry's have been discontinued for some reason). Held make BMW's branded gloves. Helmets I've been in Arai for probably 25 years and RX7's for at least 15 after I discovered that it was possible to have a helmet you can wear all day without it pressing uncomfortably on your forehead / cheeks / ears (delete as applicable).
Hat and gloves thoughts... I'm more bothered about how they perform than where they're made, child-labour does bother me though. The attention to detail from most children is shocking. I'm a fan of Furygan for winter gloves and Alpinetarts for summer gloves. Been wearing SP-8 which are not that dear and have excellent feel AGV Pista GP for my head, light enough, aerodynamics are good and fits well. Excellent vertical and horizontal fields of vision. Other lids are AGV Corsa (nice but not as nice as the Pista, which is lighter), Arai Chaser V (look like a Lego man in it but v.comfy and choice for all-day rides if a bit noisy), AGV K3SV (alright but fit and finish is so-so) and Shark S900 (bit crap ventilation, heavy and rubbish field of vision).
Another Knox chap here, on my second set of Handroids and by far the best glove to date I've had. Hurt when new and indescribably comfortable when broken in. Multiple bash hats but all either Shoei or AGV now. Aria look shit in comparison to modern shell designs, and the lego head look belongs back in the 80's whence it was first designed.
