Plus they kind of save a purpose, much like a Nissan micra with tartan blanket and box of Kleenex on the parcel shelf does to alert other road users to their motoring incompetence. The polite vest (horse riders excluded- I think they need all the help they can get surviving whilst piloting an animal on a public road) warns other bikers that they're in imminent danger of being bored to tears should they engage in any kind of conversation with them.

I hate them personally....

I'm guessing the wearers of them would be the first to complain if someone put a cardboard box imitating a Truvelo camera outside their house....

Also regarding horses on the road....Get them in a field !
