Has anyone for a spray paint that is a reasonable match for the silver on the engine cases?, thanks Mark
i used simoniz wheel steel for the crank cases. it is a slightly 'champagne' colour. i also added a glitter layer before lacquer. the clutch and cam covers were a standard silver.
Thanks Wolfram, I've used that before on other bikes and it's good , I wanted something a little darker (closer to standard looking) on the SS so I've ordered some "silver grey" VHT from eBay , no idea what it's like but only £8 if it's wrong, the simoniz is also good for fork sliders as it resists brake dust, I used it on my XJR1300 2 years ago and it's still as new.
Mark9 Look at the thread I mentioned in your clock foam thread - Mk1 Superlight Detailed restoration the saga Begins by sim900sl. He did a full reno and there is plenty of info about most things in there. Cheers Gaz
I used high temp silver on my old SS's crankcases once. Wish I hadn't. Paint never cured properly and it came off with an oily rag when cleaning. I ended up removing most it and going for the bare ally look.
I must admit bare ally and acf50 will be the way I am going - paint it once, paint it forever. But each to their own. Cheers Gaz
The paint option can be a bit crap, the last time I had never cleaned it properly after soda blasting and it flaked off pretty quickly. This time it seems to have been a lot better.
