I'm not sure if this is in the right section but i couldn't see a servicing section, where do you all take your bikes to be serviced? I'm based in Manchester, the closest to me is Manchester Ducati, but they want a tad over £800+vat for a service on an 848, yet other, independent places want a little over £400 inc vat including belts. (I'm fully aware of the belt tensioning tool that Ducati use and not all other independent garages own)
I have decided to use Italia Moto in Lincoln (closest Dealer) it will be difficult to comment not knowing exactly what service they will be performing. Is it due more than one service to bring it up to date? That does sound a bit on the high side though... I had mine in a few months back and had the following done: - 1st & 2nd Annual - Valve Clearances checked & 1 adjustment as required (got this done at the same time as it would have been due 1500 miles down the road when the bike clocked 7.5k) - New renthal chain and sprockets + carrier conversion - Exhaust valve eliminator kit - Used rear tire thrown on to get my by until I had decided which route I was going with the new set and sourced them - Slight tight spot in steering dialled out as best as possible - Couple of ancillary items (couple of fairing bolts replaced & new washers here and there etc...) - 1299 Panigale S to play with for the day  In total the final bill was somewhere in the region of £900 including V.A.T The customer service, general experience and level of attention to detail was the best I have ever experienced. I will be using them for all my servicing on Dennis :smileys: Hope this helps.
Including vat that doesn't sound too bad considering what was done. The £800+ was for belts, oil and fluids, and a valve check, any ancillary items would be added on. Considering my wife is a motorcycle mechanic (yes, i know, i feel emasculated everytime she comes near my bikes) I'm only going for the stamp in the book. I did the belts and valve clearances myself on my M600, but an 848 has a higher value so I'd rather retain it.
I was more than happy with the price, if my memory serves me well chain, sprockets, conversion carrier and exhaust valve servo eliminator came in at around £350 so I guess your quote for service seems a bit steep :/ Hopefully others will also chip in and offer there thoughts for you too and maybe even someone with first hand dealings with Ducati Manchester can comment on there pricing??
Rather than shoot from the hip and say that the £800+VAT quote for a service is way over the top, what work are you having done? I recently had my Streetfighter S serviced by my local main Ducati dealer (M&S Newcastle) including belts for £330 inc VAT.
I haven't suggested that it was over the top? Everywhere has different labour costs and ancillary items vary, merely the costs are varying wildly and wondered where the good folk on here take theirs. There needs to be a balance between quality and price, its a bit of a faux pax to be paying a total of £960 for the same list of work that can be done for a tad over £400 at a local respected bike garage, or free, if I swallow my pride is all. (interestingly, the service was listed by both places as your typical oil and fluid change, belt change and valve check)
I never said that you suggested it was over the top, I wanted to understand the scope of works to be completed before I suggested so, not wanting to shoot from the hip. I've heard similar prices quoted from main dealers for big services. I'd be tempted to go indy if you are confident with the person involved. Once you start getting into valve work, the cost goes up because it involves a lot more labour. You can save a few quid by taking the fairings off yourself.
My bad, I misunderstood the direction you were coming from with that The garage involved did all the services on my previous Ducati, and that never missed a beat, so i'm confident enough to use them, but it's always good to get other peoples opinions and experiences on where is a decent place to go when it comes to having the guts of the bike dealt with.
If you are after the "Ducati" stamp in the book, then I guess you are going to stick with main dealers, but is it worth the extra outlay vs the depreciation difference with a non-main dealer stamp? I use a local independent in Warrington, Hammer and Tongs Performance - Motorcycle Services Cheshire , who have always done a decent job with my 998, and recently did MOT, Service (belts, fluids, filters, plus a top end gasket), collection and drop off (was while I had a cast on my arm) for around £400. I am sure you can find a recommended mechanic closer to you in Manchester who would likely do similar competitive pricing - maybe somebody in the Manchester area could advise better, e.g. @Mr C
My garage does a 'big' service (belts etc) for £250, a minor service for £160. Sod paying £800, daylight robbery. If you don't have the stamp you get knocked down but not having to shell out a ridiculous amount per service in the first place justifies that.
People want to see a bikes been looked after a stamped service history is always nice but don't think it affects much not being main dealer find yourself a decent indi
So did/going to your bike service, I'm in Cheshire and use Moto R in Ruthin Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
That's a place I'm hearing good things about. It may be an option if my usual place isn't available on time.
Same for me, had my 888 serviced by these guys, and other bikes too, never had a problem, and prices cheaper than an AD. This time of year they are really busy, here's the bikes waiting for work last time I was there.. interesting custom Sports classic in there..
By the time they pull all of those bikes out of the garage in the morning, it's time to start putting them back in and knock off. :Wideyed:
Takes even longer if its a wet day and they all need bike covers fitting.. they do have some interesting bikes to work on, I was there to look at a tuned Kawasaki H2 on the dyno, while these two caught my eye..
I got a bit of a shock when the specislist (not dealer) told me it was to cost £700 plus to service and maintain, new chain and sprocket, my 2006 620 Multi. Any guidance on this appreciated.
