Indeed we are and it wouldn't surprise me if we didn't. Meanwhile what is happening behind closed doors and in the EU ?
Like all the EU negotiations, they were behind closed doors and repercussions written in the small print. We are in this change because of this approach and will never learn from it, then again, is there a will to learn, I doubt it. I just hope everyone is questioning the process and it's open.
That's the way of the world now not the EU alone. Think if the clandestine agreements the UK government and HMRC have done with the big multinationals so they don't have to pay the correct amount of tax.
And to attract business, trade etc there will need to more relief. Relief for those that create jobs, manufacturing, technology etc, I'm not meaning bullshit online companies with a bank account and po box number.
corporate tax is a tough one. Ultimately, there's nothing to stop companies moving money around to the best tax regime. Maybe not the best strategy, but as long as it's legal, they'll do it. I guess, you have to think about the tax that the employees pay as well as the company: if you have an office with a number of employees, where the average salary is £100k, you're still making a lot of tax compared to no office and no local employees
'The tax that the employees pay' - not the company. Once you get into a mindset where we should be grateful the companies are making money from us but don't have to follow the same tax rules as everyone else, then the system is fucked.
Corporation Tax, I think should change. Don't tax profit, tax the sales, Corporations can move profits around and the old story, 'we didn't make any profit' could then be challenged. Simplistic view.
They would just pass that on to the customer then. A better idea would be to stop companies making up fictitious costs to move money from country to country.
